REVIEW: The Omega Men #9

Super Tuesday has come and gone, and our very nation might on the verge of electing the biggest con artist in American history. What does this have to do with The Omega Men #9? Well funny you should ask that, since this book (like good science fiction) has mirrored the current state of the world for some time. While there isn’t a Donald Trump-esque character in this series, the themes of preying on the fears of a group of people to further one’s agenda. Today’s issue articulates why extremism never wins.

REVIEW: Green Lantern #50

Take notice comic book fans! This is possibly the last time that comics from either Marvel and DC actually reach issue 50th (given the state of the constant renumbering). So let’s take the time to celebrate this momentous occasion, before it starts all over again in just a few short months. Since December of last year, Venditti has been slowly building towards the ultimate confrontation between one man’s ultimate despair and his reflection. The desire within us to want to reshape our past takes takes physical form as two Hal Jordan’s from battle for their souls.

REVIEW: Justice League #48

REBIRTH! Man, a brick ton of news that concerns the future of DC comics dropped since the last issue of Justice League. However let’s finish Darkseid War before we start peering into the future of DC comics. While I’ve been mainly positive about Darkseid War since it’s launch last June, part me of knows that this is starting to feel something you don’t want to feel during something of this magnitude. The “dragging” feeling, where the once high octane action can begin to take a toll, which is a problem Geoff has had in previous event style sagas. Let’s see if this issue turns the tide or continues down the path of action fatigue.

REVIEW: Dark Knight Universe Presents Green Lantern #1

So this is going to be a bit different than your standard review from yours truly. To clarify this isn’t a review of the Dark Knight Returns III #3, after all this isn’t a Batman site. Given how Frank Miller thinks about Green Lantern it’s odd to an entire micro-comic dedicated to Hal Jordan. That being said, the past two micro-comics were interesting examinations of characters within the world of DKR, so despite Miller’s feelings towards Green Lantern as a concept one would think that momentum would carry over onto this issue DKUP. Also legendary artist John Romita Junior on pencils, what could possibly go wrong?

REVIEW: Green Lantern Corps Edge of Oblivion #2

Capture

After speculation of mine and other readers of how Lost Army’s plot lines actually fit within Edge of Oblivion’s larger plot line. Well according to Van Sciver himself this current mini series is in fact not a direct follow up to Lost Army. While I’m glad that Lost Army’s plot lines are being shelved since the overall story was below average, the fact that DC isn’t even going to mention it at all is pretty telling of how editorial is handling some of their projects. So with that being said now the comparisons can be dropped, so let’s move forward shall we?

REVIEW: Green Lantern #49

When it comes to superhero comics there’s been a constant discussion of should real world problems intertwine within the realm of fantasy? To some comics are supposed to be an escape from our normal day to day lives. However over the course of seventy five years, there have been instances where the real world problems crossed over to this paper thin realm. I would be here all day long listing them but the one that is more relevant today is Denny O’Neil and Neal Adam’s reinvention of Green Arrow and team up with Green Lantern. This issue serves to cross that boundary once again.

REVIEW: The Omega Men #8

Okay when I set out on my day, I had a good idea on how I wanted to format the intro for this review. After reading The Omega Men number 8 nothing I had prepared could even comprehend the roller coaster of emotions and the jubilation of just how Tom King and Barnaby Bagenda are simply killing it on this series. In today’s comics market the “long game” seems to be an artifact, with no buildup to events and character revelations have no impact due to that lack of buildup. Without spoiling the issue here, this chapter of The Omega Men is a perfect example of how laying a solid foundation is better than a rush job.

REVIEW: Green Lantern Corps Edge of Oblivion #1

While I won’t recycle The New Day joke once again, it is a new chapter for the Green Lantern Corps. It’s no secret that Lost Army started out with promise but slowly dissolved into a mess. Now former Earth 2 writer Tom Taylor returns to DC to finish up what Cullen Bunn started. What’s even better is Ethan Van Sciver joins him and veteran fans will remember the stamp that EVS has left on the Green Lantern legacy. So with that being said, let’s see what Tom Taylor and Ethan Van Sciver have in store for The Lost Lanterns.

REVIEW: Green Lantern #48

DON’T YOU DARE BE SOUR!!! CLAP YOUR HANDS AND FEEL THE GREEN LANTERN POWAH!!! It’s a New Year yes it is. Indulge my wrestling reference but it’s a brand new year for resident renegade Green Lantern. However as most of us know, despite that turn of the calender the past tends to follow us in some form. We as human beings can’t help but walk a similar path until we ultimately remove our blinders and see the troubled waters, and sail into calms shores. I realize I switched from walking to sailing but it all works out in the end, but what does this have to do with Emerald Twilight?

REVIEW: Justice League #47

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE! This review was initially going to come out along side The Omega Men, but a severe earache has kept me but I’m buckling down for this one! 2015 was the year that Geoff John’s revitalized my faith in his writing skill. Not that Geoff John’s needs my praise but it’s fun to see an old favorite recapture the magic of yesteryear. Another beautiful addition is Jason Fabok as his brings detailed line work with skilled storytelling skills on the most iconic team book in all of comics. Let’s kick off 2016 with a bang!
