REVIEW: The Omega Men #6

Hope everyone had an amazing Thanksgiving, and with it being the season of thanks I’m thankful for this series. Even though earlier reviews of mine were the complete opposite of thankful. This should have been the penultimate issue of the series, however as we know now that isn’t the case anymore. Tom King has impressed me on his ability to step out of the box and write a gritty sci-fi comic with deeper rooted themes. The center of this story is still Kyle Rayner and his purpose for whatever The Omega Men have in store for him.

REVIEW: Sinestro #17

Last issue we were treated to two insanely powerful egotistical villains who would much rather think of themselves as “Anti-Heroes” in Black Adam and our main character Sinestro. So what does Cullen Bunn offer up for us readers this time around? Well, more cameos and more Black Adam and less intrigue. Hit the jump for the play by play…or something like that.

I have not been kind to this series at all. In this intro I could rip apart what exactly what went wrong with this series, however just read my reviews of previous issues to understand the crux of my arguments. Some might say that I’m not being fair, since Lost Army was a twelve issue story that became truncated into a six issue mini series. So hopefully before Tom Taylor and Ethan Van Sciver start their Green Lantern mini series in 2016, let’s see if we can’t have an enjoyable send off from this forgettable series.

REVIEW: Justice League Darkseid War: Green Lantern #1

Within the realm of superhero comics, the idea of faith is an odd one. The DC universe is filled with God like beings, with people who can defy death itself, among other “miracles” it can make a reader question why would someone believe in a God that isn’t physically there. Especially when actual Gods walk among them. Tom King using the events of Darkseid War tackles the very idea of faith, what it means to believe in something that isn’t completely tangible. This story is Hal Jordan’s confrontation not with parademons, but with God himself. There are parademons to fight though.

REVIEW: Green Lantern #46

Here we are once again at the end of current Black Hand story line. Last issue I marveled at Venditti’s ability to stay true to Black Hand’s recent history, while simultaneously adding his own twisted spin on William Hand. Now that we are six months into this very different iteration of Hal Jordan, I can definitively say that the change of pace has been good for Green Lantern. The book still retains the epic scope, without the typical end of the world scenario in play. So let’s see how Venditti wraps up the first arc of Green Lantern Renegade!

This is definitely the meeting I expected it to be. Sinestro. Black Adam. Black and yellow. Black and yellow. Pittsburgh would be so proud. Come take a gander at my thoughts below on this interesting meeting between the two longstanding villains of the DC Universe and their matching color scheme and similar ideals. Oh, and some plot progression too!

REVIEW: Earth 2 Society #5

When you look at the definition for the word fame, something particular strikes me a interesting. In most instances, people who have a achieved a level of fame by doing something worth talking about (fame isn’t a good or evil status). However if you look out cultures in the current day, there’s a lot of people who are famous due to the fact of what family they where born into. So apply that to the world of superheroes, where a good majority of these people become famous because of their heroic deeds, but what if that’s not enough for some of them?

REVIEW: Justice League #45

I don’t know if anybody can tell or not, but I’m enjoying Darkseid War immensely. Now as we enter the second act, Johns has put some perplexing pieces on the fictional chess board. Certain characters have undergone drastic changes from the previous issue, and if you’re at all familiar to the world of comics, then you know nothing is permanent. Which makes us as readers ask, why should we care about these changes. That is the challenge that John’s and artist duo Francis Manapaul, and Brian Buccellato face with this chapter of Darkseid War.

Here we are, the penultimate issue of this series, and honestly I’m overjoyed that this particular group of Lanterns will at least be getting another mini series. I can see the fascinating ideas that Cullen Bunn wanted to do if was given more time, however the time Cullen Bunn has been given, it wasn’t spent in ways that would make any reader invested into the plot of Lost Army. This particular issue sums up all the problems I’ve had with Lost Army as a series since the very beginning.

REVIEW: The Omega Men #5

I had this entire paragraph written out how unfortunate it was to hear about the cancellation of The Omega Men. I had a written rant in which I would proclaim that DC was to quick to pull the rug from underneath The Omega Men. However it appears that fans of this book have returned and in larger numbers to proclaim their love for this series. Granted the first couple of issues didn’t set well with me in fleshing out the cast of characters, I can’t deny the craft that goes into one issue of The Omega Men. So thank you Dan Didio and Jim Lee for letting this series see a proper conclusion.
