I know I’m relatively young, but if there’s one thing I’ve learned when it comes to human beings is the sheer amount of animosity we can have when trusting another human. I understand that is a huge generalization but I believe that it’s a factor of life at this point. For some people it takes time to get over these preconceived notions and move forward in building a better society, one that well can enjoy for generations to come. Isn’t the objective of life, is to move beyond our past to find something new about ourselves as people. However that doesn’t apply to the world of comics (shocker I know) where the term “ending” is only used in pure sarcasm because the tale of superheroes is never ending battle and recycling events to fit the current generation of comics. I’m not against going back to older concepts because sometimes you need a back to basics approach. Now what in the world does this have to do with Hal Jordan & The Green Lantern Corps? As long as I can remember, personal trauma has been part of a being superhero. I realize that hasn’t been the case always but for me as a reader the amazing set pieces and crazy costumes has always walked side by side with the pain of their past. However in mainstream comics there is a reliance on that trauma a bit to much that readers can be beaten over the head with it thus losing the power of whatever the moment the writer is using. Heck even our own Hal Jordan has been subject to the overuse of his Dad dying (spoilers btw). Warning there will be spoilers going forward. You have been warned.

Okay I will admit that two weeks ago I was a bit harsh in my criticism that the cover ruined the ending of the comic. I did amid that when I first saw the title of this current arc, my mind instantly went to Saint Walker since he’s the only Blue Lantern who’s actually progressed outside of his initial appearance (does nobody else remember the elephant Blue Lantern?). So I set my own personal expectations that it might have been a new Blue Lantern. I love Saint Walker regardless so let’s see what Robert Venditti has in store for the only Blue Lantern in all the universe.

Imagine it’s your first day of school, and for the sake of the argument let’s just assume it’s a brand new school where you have to find new friends in order to make the adjustment process a little bit easier. Working together with complete strangers who might share a different ideology is perhaps one of the more difficult aspects of humanoid life. Of course when you factor in power rings things become even more complicated. So where does that leave the new partnership between the Sinestro Corps and The Green Lantern Corps? REVIEW: Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps Vol. 1: Sinestro’s Law

Ask most Green Lantern readers in the last five ye–scratch that, the last freaking decade and they’ll tell you the two creators synonymous with the brand are Geoff Johns and Ethan Van Sciver. No other duo has a made mark on the series than they did way back in 2006. They started this Rebirth with Green Lantern: Rebirth and now the legacy they left on the franchise has become the newest DC Comics initiative for all titles. That’s quite a standard to align your entire publishing line on, but damn if it doesn’t give me goosebumps just thinking about so many comics being that damn good. So who would DC put to the task of recreating that magic from what seems like so long ago? Who? Well, just a guy who was tapped to replace Geoff Johns when he departed the title, in Robert Venditti and one of the biggest artists in comics…Ethan Van Sciver! I’m gonna level with you for one second, and it might be a bit radical when you factor in the types of comics I tend to enjoy the most. I believe that some part of that “mythical” aspect of the DC heroes isn’t as prevalent. This isn’t a rallying cry to force creators to write a certain style but to find unique circumstances to emphasize what makes a hero different from everyday people. Especially in the DC Universe where the Justice League themselves are treated like the Greek Pantheon. What does this have to do with this issue? Read further on and find out, there will be spoilers.

Forgive ladies and gentlemen, but the reality is we live in a divided world. Nowadays it’s so easy to find people who fit their ideas and ignore whatever idea their “opposition” brings to them. When I sit at the bus stop thinking about people who flat ignore the other side of the argument it flat out scares me. What I like about comics is that it should emphasizes the more optimistic side of humanity. My final review of 2016 is finally here! Before I actually begin to review, I have to congratulate Robert Venditti, Rafa Sandoval, and Ethan Van Sciver for the new energy they have lent to this current series. I’ve been a fan of what Robert has done when he took over the title three years ago, but returning Hal back to his classic look and attitude just feels right. At the same time, I’m starting to warm up to the idea of the Sinestro Corps working in tandem the Green Lantern Corps brings in that new spice for the rest of our beloved corps. For now let’s see how the final H&TGLC ends 2016, warning there will be spoilers going forward.
