Anxiety is something that millions of people around the world deal with on a daily basis. Every single day is a battle for someone to overcome their own personal anxiety, and as we know there are people out there who are more successful with dealing with anxiety than others. It can make a comic reader wonder why more superheroes don’t openly express their own personal anxiety, which leads to an interesting question how much self doubt and personal trauma is to much for one issue? With the penultimate chapter of Red Dawn upon us, let’s see where Humphries takes Baz and Cruz this go around. Also small reminder spoilers are to follow, you’ve been warned.

REVIEW: Green Lanterns #4 (Second Opinion)

Repression is something that millions of people deal with on a daily basis, it’s a struggle to say what you want to say in the manner that fits you.  After days, weeks, months and in some cases potentially years that repression can eat away, putting that person in a bitter or depressed state. Personally for me, after repressing my own personal emotions I tend to lash out in pure anger telling the entire world what I’m feeling. It’s not a healthy way to live at all, something I’m dealing with even know, but for Jessica Cruz and Simon Baz it’s something they nee to come to terms with very soon. Spoilers lay ahead, you have been warned.

It’s an interesting climate we live in today, a world that is seemingly coming apart at the seems. military coups in other countries, terrorists gaining the upper hand in the middle east, shootings in our own backyard. There is one common trait that these horrible events share, that feeling of pure rage. Anger is perhaps our most primal emotion, something that people revert to when a wall pushes down on them and won’t let up. REVIEW: Green Lanterns #2

My how the time flies! The Rebirth of the DCU continues despite the pesky fifth week getting in the way. Much to my surprise Sam Humphries was able to establish the tone that the series should follow going forward. I’m still hesitant over the inclusion of The Red Lanterns, but that’s my own personal bias after reading The Emotional Spectrum Adventures since 2008, but perhaps newer readers find Atrocitus and his “rage” more entertaining. Thankfully Jessica’s personality shines above the red mess, but hopefully this issue puts some character development behind Simon Baz, a character who needs more page time. Spoilers ahead!

I’ll be the first one to admit that I’m not too enthusiastic with the direction that this book seems to be going and this is only issue one. This isn’t a case against Simon Baz or Jessica Cruz mind you, but rather a yawn directed at the focus on the tired concept that is the Red Lantern Corps. I’m not throwing in the towel on this series right away but I’m praying to Oa that the true strength of the series relies on both rookie Green Lanterns. It’s ideally a new era for the Green Lantern family of titles, so let’s see how Sam Humphries and Robson Rocha plan to kick it off. Spoilers ahead!

Yes your eyes do not deceive you, there are two reviews dedicated to Green Lanterns Rebirth. It’s a new era for the Green Lantern mythos, as now we only have two monthly books to concern ourselves with. After over a year of Jessica Cruz under the influence of The Power Ring, she finally gets a chance to shine alongside her new partner Simon Baz. Now to usher in this new era for Green Lantern, as Sam Humphries (along with Geoff Johns) set the stage for the new dynamic duo.
