Can you believe that it’s already been one year since DC relaunched it’s entire line for Rebirth. Over the course of ten years of reading comics, I’ve read several relaunches some with mitigating success and some that ultimately get scrapped or another reboot. It goes without saying that I’ve loved what DC has done over the past year and I’m uber excited for what they have for the rest of this year. As for Green Lanterns while I’ve been highly critical of certain story choices and the struggle to keep a consistent art team, I still enjoy reading it whenever it comes out. So let’s see how Sam Humphries plans to start out his second year on Green Lanterns. Warning they’re will be spoilers.

Accomplishing our dreams is something that seems impossible. The road is to daunting, support waivers after a while you yourself might stop believing in dreams and settle into complacency. Sadly this is what happens to millions of people because the reality is that we all can’t achieve our dreams at the same time, however that doesn’t mean one should give up on their goals. I want you (yes whoever is reading this) to stop for a second and remind yourself when you first started reading comics. You might read something that started off as mundane but then gave you a feeling that only comic books can deliver. It may be a trip across the multiverse, a trip to the past or the future, or a battle against some cosmic God you will always will remember the first a comic book took you on an adventure you’ll never forget. For superheroes death is nothing but a revolving door, even the most heartfelt of death scenes ultimately seem trivial when in the back of reader’s minds they know the heroes will return in some fashion. However one aspect that isn’t treated like a joke is the death of supporting characters. Yes some of them do return but for the most part when a supporting character dies, they stay dead until the plot deems otherwise. What if we took this idea and looked at death from the villains perspective? Warning there will be spoilers, read your comic before reading further. You have been warned.

REVIEW: Green Lanterns #19

Revamping classic villains for modern readers is such a classic trope in comics, a trope that I hope never dies. Yes I would like some new villains, but if creators can bring fresh new approaches I’m game. Just look at Green Lantern when Geoff Johns took over the title, all I have to mention is Black Hand a character that had little notoriety and becomes a mainstay. So now we enter Doctor Polaris another Green Lantern villain I’m not to familiar but I’m hoping for something deep. Warning there will be spoilers going forward, you’ve been warned.

After Volthoom’s return in the Rise of The Third Army, The Wrath of The First Lantern and just recently the Phantom Ring story arc it seems that Sam Humphries has chosen now to reveal the “secret origin” of Volthoom. Now you’ll have to forgive me but I didn’t read The Third Army or The Wrath of The First Lantern so I have no idea if Geoff Johns or any other writers delved into Volthoom’s origin at all. So I have zero expectations for what Sam Humphries has in store for The First Lantern. Warning there will be spoilers going forward, you’ve been warned.

It’s easy for people to acknowledge what makes them afraid, it could be spiders, giant oceans, or the fear of being alone (looking at you Dark Knight). In my own personal experience it’s generally easier to admit that you’re afraid of something and actually confronting the heart of said fear. Humans generally don’t enjoy being terrified, it reverses us to a vulnerable state. This is a Green Lantern website and facing your fear head on is what being a Green Lantern is all about, so let’s see if Simon Baz finally tackles his inner demon.

REVIEW: Green Lanterns #16

When you think of iconic team ups within the DCU, your first thoughts might pop to Batman and Superman or The Flash and Green Lantern or Green Arrow and Green Lantern. However one partnership that tends to get overlooked and that’s Batman and Green Lantern. Whether it’s Batman knocking out Guy Gardner with one punch or Hal Jordan helping Bruce Wayne cope with his inner fears. The contrast between these heroes is night and day, more so than even Batman’s relationship with Superman. Now we get to see a new generation of Green Lantern meet the Dark Knight.
