Geoff Johns briefly talks The First Lantern

“Who the First Lantern is and what his role will be in the upcoming Green Lantern universe will come into play very, very quickly,” hinted GREEN LANTERN writer Geoff Johns. “The being inside has been imprisoned there for a long, long time. The Guardians consider him their greatest threat, but also their greatest source of power. Whether he’s friend or foe will be up for debate, but regardless he is one of the potentially most dangerous beings in existence.”

“In GREEN LANTERN ANNUAL #1, readers got their first glimpse at the First Lantern, someone who’s been locked away for a very long time—for a VERY good reason!” teased editor Matt Idelson. “His presence in this story is the catalyst for something very bad, and yet his story is only going to grow from here.” via The Source

Interview: Ethan Van Sciver Ushers in the Beginning of the End in ‘Green Lantern Annual’ #1

With its dripping, green-on-black cover, it’s clear that something ominous is going on in Green Lantern Annual #1, out this week from DC Comics. When I spoke with artist Ethan Van Sciver about the book by e-mail, he said that his latest collaboration with Geoff Johns represented something of an ending (and new beginning) for this particular part of the DCU. You know how these things go–the Flash: Rebirth and Green Lantern: Rebirth artist couldn’t give away the plot of this week’s 48-page annual, but he was able to give MTV a little insight into how the book will lead into October’s crossover, “The Rise of the Third Army.”
