Out this week is Tales From the Dark Multiverse: Blackest Night, a monstrously named one shot that explores one of those “what if” type scenarios where someone fucks up some major event and cool shit ensues. Usually the world ends, new costumes are designed, and undoubtedly a few adults fondly half remember these as the best stories they read as young adults (Wolverine Lord of the Vampires FTW BTW). And those are great, full stop. Even the worst ones have an immediate hook! Actual consequences can be felt for characters that have had ongoing adventures for a hundred years. Nothing is certain and we can have actual endings! Bleak ones too! {Sigh} Excuse me while I go and dig out some old DC Summer annuals & work on my ‘Citizen Wayne’ cosplay…

Timed for that sweet, sweet holiday-themed release, ‘Secrets Of Sinister House’ is an anthology of all new stories featuring lots of fun work by very talented people. Some are names you see often and others don’t get a lot of spotlight. Whether it’s worth it depends on your appetite for this type of thing. As expected, most of the stories are one off adventures featuring the characters dealing with some kind of Halloween angled threat.

Dear Justice League” is a new graphic novel, part of an increased direct to bookshelf focus DC has with a younger audience in mind. Smart business and this is just the sort of book they should be putting out. The premise is that members of the world famous (but currently not as in vogue) superhero team respond to letters from fans.
