Green Lantern HBO Max series being “redeveloped”

And will now focus solely around John Stewart. All scripts have been thrown out and presumably all of the previously cast actors have been released.

The Hollywood Reporter:

HBO Max’s long-gestating Green Lantern TV series is changing gears.

The drama that has been in the works since late 2019 will now focus on John Stewart, one of DC’s first Black superheroes. The series, from exec producer Greg Berlanti, was to originally have revolved around Guy Gardner and Alan Scott and had already cast Finn Wittrock (Ratched) and Jeremy Irvine (Treadstone) as the respective Green Lanterns.

As part of the creative overhaul, writer and showrunner Seth Grahame-Smith has departed the series after completing scripts for a full season of eight episodes. Sources say Grahame-Smith, who signed on as writer and showrunner a year after Green Lantern was announced, chose to leave the project after weathering a number of regime changes at HBO Max, its parent company, producers Warner Bros. Television and now DC Comics.

The decision to refocus Green Lantern arrives at a pivotal time for DC. Sources say the character of John Stewart was off the table to producers who envisioned the show as focusing on the first Green Lantern, the openly gay Alan Scott, and Guy Gardner as well as a “multitude of other Lanterns — from comic book favorites to never-before-seen heroes.” With DC Comics topper Walter Hamada’s recent exit, a decision was made to start over and build the show around John Stewart, the character who first appeared in the early 1970s and was modeled after Sidney Poitier. It’s worth noting that the Green Lantern creative overhaul has nothing to do with news this week that James Gunn and Peter Safran have been tapped to lead film, TV and animation at DC Studios in a role similar to what Kevin Feige is doing at Marvel. (Gunn and Safran don’t start their new jobs until Nov. 1.)

Of the previous incarnation, only Berlanti and his Warner Bros. TV-based Berlanti Productions remain attached to Green Lantern. (Fellow exec producer Marc Guggenheim, who originally was poised to co-write the pilot alongside Grahame-Smith, was not recently involved with the show ahead of its retooling.)

When HBO Max announced plans for Green Lantern in October 2019, Berlanti described it as the “biggest DC show ever made,” with plans for the series to go to space. Insiders at the time said it was poised to be the most expensive show DC ever made and easily the largest for HBO Max with a budget estimated in the $120 million range. (House of the Dragon, by comparison, cost less than $200 million.)

The show’s budget going forward is expected to be significantly less as HBO Max, under David Zaslav’s combined Warner Bros. Discovery, is focusing on right-sizing its various assets. As part of the move to find an estimated $3 billion in cost savings, Zaslav and his division leaders have dropped a number of projects including Berlanti’s planned Strange Adventures anthology for HBO Max, J.J. Abrams’ HBO original series Demimonde and the already completed Batgirl feature film. (For Demimonde, HBO is said to have balked at Abrams’ request for a budget north of $200 million.)

WBD said in an SEC filing this week that it expects to take $2 billion to $2.5 billion in tax write-downs related to content. The eight previously completed Green Lantern scripts are expected to be included in those tax write-downs as sources maintain it wasn’t Grahame-Smith’s creative that ultimately doomed the first incarnation of the show but rather its price tag.

As for Wittrock and Irvine, neither remains signed on to Green Lantern. Sources indicate that Berlanti Productions is eager to work with both actors when and if the project, which currently has a script-to-series commitment, moves forward. In spring 2021, when Wittrock and Irvine were cast, the show was still being fast-tracked and was to begin shooting that same year. The project is now on a slower, more HBO-like, development track under Bloys and Warner Bros. TV topper Channing Dungey. A new logline for the series has not yet been determined as the project is back to being in early development.

Reps for HBO Max, Warners, Berlanti Productions and Grahame-Smith declined to comment.

The HBO Max take is Berlanti’s second stab at the world of Green Lantern. He previously penned the screenplay (alongside Michael Green, Guggenheim and Michael Goldenberg) for the 2011 DC-produced Ryan Reynolds starrer. That movie was met with negative reviews and was considered a flop. It grossed $219 million vs. a budget of $200 million.

Comic books are one of the greatest treasures we own. Some people are so crazy about collecting original collections of comic books that they will pay a fortune for that. If you are the owner of a considerable comic book collection, however, circumstances are asking you to get rid of them for various reasons, then you should know how to sell your most prized possession.

Selling your comic books is not a simple job. You should follow these simple guidelines to make sure that your collection lands with the right owner at the right price.

1.      Find A Place To Sell Your Comic Books

First of all, you should know the right place to sell comic books. You can do so at two places,

  • Comic book stores
  • Online stores

Since comic books are trending again, many people visit comic book stores for new collections. Some book stores might be interested in buying old and vintage collections. If you have anything of the sort, you might be in luck. If you have simple comic books, old book stores might be a better option. It is not good money but it is something.

The second way of selling your comic collection is via online stores. You can put an advertisement and interested parties will contact you.

2.      Know The Worth Of Your Comic Books

Before putting a price on your comic book, make sure you know its worth. Comic books that are early editions, or the issues you have introducing new superheroes may be worth millions. For example, original DC and Marvel books might make you super-rich.

However, if you have simpler editions that did just a normal business might not be worth much money.

3.      Define Your Comic Book Correctly

When you put your comic book collection on sale, make sure you mention the issue number, publisher, and other useful information right. These pieces of information are important for defining the right price for your collection. It also creates a trusting relationship with the buyer.

When you are selling the books online, make sure that you provide information about the condition of the book. Spelling mistakes in books’ descriptions and any wrong information might skip your advertisement from the search engine.

4.      Build Trust Among Online Buyers

It is extremely important to have a trusting relationship with the buyer, especially when you are selling online. You should take a picture of your comic books with your camera. Avoid using photos from the internet, as it can give the wrong impression.

Secondly, you should mention the correct issue number, comic book name, creators’ information, and other useful information with precision. If a potential buyer can trust you, they will buy from you at the asked price, especially when secure options like blockchain payment solutions make transactions more reliable.

Final Words

Comic book collections can be treasures that can make you rich. However, not every edition is worth millions of dollars, or even thousands of dollars. Make sure you know the worth of your books and provide factual information to the buyer to make a transparent deal.

Green Lantern Jessica Cruz Exceptional Willpower Against her Fears

The Green Lantern Corps, which are a part of the DC Universe for many years possess a power that is given to them by the Green Lantern Rings they wield. The power is exceptional, some might say it is the most powerful weapon in the whole galaxy. Anything can be done only by wearing the most powerful ring in the galaxy.

This ring gives extraordinary abilities like, breathing in space, creating solid objects, just to name a few things from many that are possible with this ring. Kyle Rayner has also created fully functioning legs some time before, completely with willpower. The most important thing that is needed to be eligible for this mighty weapon is unruly willpower. One must believe, so one can create. If uncertainty, fear, or anxiety is present the Green Lantern Ring loses its power. Warriors who have crippling fears or anxiety make a poor choice for such a weapon. Even though that’s true this changed when Jessica Cruz received a Power Ring.

Jessica Cruz had been a witness to the brutal murder of her close companions. She managed to escape, but the event had left deep scars on her psyche. She felt like a coward for not giving them the helping hand and escaping by herself. Full of anxiety, fears, and self-doubt, Jessica locked herself in the house for three years. In this time, The Ring of Volthoom had left its subject and came to Jessica and forced itself on her.

She went through a long journey, Batman helped Jessica conquer her fears. Hal Jordan – who might be played by Tom Cruise in the upcoming 2020 movie – was there to teach her the path to controlling the ring’s power, along with Guy Gardner, a failed football superstar, who joined the corps after injuries stopped him from being one of NFL future wagers. Difficulties arise when it came to making constructs, it was obvious that her willpower wasn’t strong enough. In Green Lanterns: Rage Plant, she overcame her anxieties and fears and helped save the world.

She had such an exhausting and crippling fear, that when she left her house or be anywhere else it would make her skin crawl. However, she remained a warrior. Defeating frightening beasts whose main source of power was the rage. There was a lot of self-doubts and a lot of moments when she wanted to quit, there were moments when there was no hope, however, she came up on top.

Jessica Cruz as a hero and a warrior defeated the inner voices of doubt and low self-esteem and she came out mighty. Her inner thought process of self-doubt and when she started to freeze, but then trying and succeeding to motivate herself to push through took a lot of guts and willpower. The murder of her close companions had really left a deep searing mark on her, but Jessica even in times of self-doubt and fear managed to take a huge leap of step which shows courage and willpower.

She found a way to wield the most powerful weapon in the galaxy, which feeds of willpower and managed to make it reach its potential. With all the excess amount of anxieties and fears, not to mention issues with self-worth, she had been glorious being able to dig deep to overcome something she couldn’t for years.

Even though her willpower was so low before that she couldn’t even create a boxing glove with her ring, she succeeded in creating a construct that abolished the Red Lantern’s tower. Every great hero has a huge story that shows a path full of obstacles. One of the most amazing parts of this story was that Jessica acknowledged her fears and she pushed through gloriously. This story resembles that no matter how hard it might be, a hero will arise in oneself.

Top 3 Gambling Movies on Netflix

I wish I could whip up program code for aggregate movie views across all platforms to see which movies about gambling got the most views in 2020. Learn how to gamble successfully gaining casino experience and knowledge. Exploring tools like the wingo lottery can also add a fun and rewarding way to apply what you’ve learned.

But alas, I’m not a programmer and there doesn’t seem to be such an esoteric code available on the fly for people like me. But that’s ok. I originally set out to figure out the top three in general for the year, but we’ll just check Netflix reports, and then I’ll mention what I think are the top three all-time as well.

The Top 10 most-watched Netflix Originals are all non-betting related. Extraction leads the way with 99 million views, followed by Birdbox at 89 million. Then we have shows like Lupin with 70 million viewers and Cobra Kai Season 3 with 41 million.

Upon digging and digging for specific view stats, I came up with absolutely nothing on movies outside the top Netflix views all-time, which didn’t include any gambling movies. That said, I think that it’s safe to say that Uncut Gems is most likely the highest viewed movie about gambling on Netflix in 2020 – and no, the stats for this one were not listed either.

So, although I doubt it’s anywhere near the all-time most viewed on Netflix, as movies like Casino are a part of Netflix’s expansive content list, we’ll just drop it here at No. 1 for 2020.

What will become of Kyle?

Since appearing in the Green Lantern 80th Anniversary special back in June, Kyle Rayner has been conspicuously absent from comics. To be fair, Grant Morrison’s “The Green Lantern” makes no bones about being Hal-centric (though is also surprising, as Grant Morrison was a huge advocate and proponent of Kyle during his initial well-received “JLA” days), so it’s not completely unexpected. As such, and without even a Green Lantern Corps book anymore to deposit him (and all of the other estranged GLs)… he appears to be a character without a home.

For those unaware, beginning with “Emerald Twilight” in 1994 and concluding with “Rebirth,” ending in 2005, for 11 years Kyle Rayner was the only Green Lantern in comics. Alan Scott was quickly shuffled into the moniker of “Sentinel,” John Stewart was made into a Darkstar, and Guy Gardner went on adventures with a then-dead Sinestro’s yellow ring (later, his Vuldarian Warrior days). He was the guy carrying the torch for more than a decade, a literal “Torce Bearer.” Not only did he basically bring Hal back from the dead, he also resurrected the Guardians (who history seems to often incorrectly paint that Hal killed… he did not, they very clearly suicided in GL Vol. 3 #50) and repowered the Central Power Battery, single-handedly making it possible for the Green Lantern Corps to return (which it did, in “Green Lantern Corps: Recharge”).

Now, for a generation, perhaps two… Kyle was their guy, for better or worse. It is true, many pre-existing Hal Jordan fans felt slighted, and those who have been around the books long enough remember the HEAT days (Ha’s Emerald Advancement Team) whose dreams and desires would one day become fulfilled at the hand of Geoff Johns.

In any case, 2020 is a very different time than 1994. It’s also a very different time than 2005. Hell, 2020 is also a radically different time than 2019. But should any of this take away from Kyle’s contributions to not only Green Lantern the mythos, but the aforementioned two generations of fans? Most would say “absolutely not.”

Now, there is the question of where he would go in a new DC comic today. There appears to be this general idea since “Green Lantern: Rebirth” that Kyle Rayner could only ever be placed in an ensemble cast book. We saw that in multiple volumes of “Green Lantern Corps,” we saw it in the “Countdown” books, we saw it in “Green Lantern: New Guardians,” we saw it in “Omega Men.” There was only one time Kyle was given a shake in a solo run, and it was Ron Marz’ “Ion” series, that was actually supposed to be an ongoing before Geoff Johns decided to yank Kyle out of that and make him a regular Green Lantern again in “Sinestro Corps War” where he would then proceed to go on to… basically blend into the background in the aforementioned ensemble books.

So where would he go? If not a solo book, why not a partnered up book? Kyle has always thrived in Earth-based stories, so let’s start with that. It has to be something that he can go and do these crazy adventures, ringslinging (whether it’s a Green ring or a White ring or something else is beside the point), but then at the end of the day he can still visit New York and have coffee at Radu’s before maybe working on some art. Who would the partner be? Kyle’s  always had a pretty vibrant romantic life… so perhaps a romantic partner? If Jade is brought back, a rekindling there would surely raise some eyebrows. Donna Troy, round two? Soranik? Maybe putting it back on with Carol? Or romancing Jessica Cruz?

What it shouldn’t take is 20 Deposit Casinos to make it happen. But we’ll see what they do as Grant Morrison wraps up his current run.
