IGN had a quick chat with Green Lantern Corps writer Van Jensen about the upcoming tie-in issue to the Batman minievent “Zero Year.” Check out what Van had to say below, and take a look at Bernard Chang’s cover for GLC #25.
Van on how the crossover came about, John Stewart’s missing origin, and not worrying about fitting in with the Batbooks:
“No one pushed the crossover down our throats,” he said. “The Batman editors just let other editors know that Zero Year was happening, and they offered the chance to do a crossover if it would benefit our books in terms of story. And when we thought about it, very quickly we saw an opportunity to tell what amounts to a John Stewart origin story.”
“We’ll learn more about a couple of periods in John’s life: his childhood, and his time in the Marines. And we’ll see how a couple of key events changed him and shaped him into the man he is today.”
“I know it seems like a weird fit, but I think once people read the issue, they’ll understand that not only is it relevant, it is integral to John and the journey that he’s on.”
