Exciting news for Green Lantern fans! Nathan Fillion has officially joined the cast of HBO’s upcoming Lanterns series, stepping into the role of Guy Gardner, one of the iconic Green Lanterns. This highly anticipated series will continue to expand the DC Universe with a grounded, earth-based mystery.
Fillion is no stranger to the Green Lantern Corps. He first lent his voice to the character Hal Jordan in the 2011 animated film Green Lantern: Emerald Knights. His portrayal continued in several DC animated projects, including:
- Justice League: Doom (2012)
- Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox (2013)
- Justice League: Throne of Atlantis (2015)
- The Death of Superman (2018)
- Reign of the Supermen (2019)
While these roles brought Hal Jordan to life in animation, Fillion’s live-action debut as a Green Lantern will be as Guy Gardner, a fan-favorite member of the Corps, in James Gunn’s Superman, set to premiere this July. His return to the role in Lanterns further solidifies his connection to the DC Universe.
Starring Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre as John Stewart, Lanterns promises a gripping, noir-inspired mystery. The official synopsis teases a story about “two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.”
Alongside Fillion, the cast features:
- Kelly Macdonald as local sheriff Kerry
- Garret Dillahunt as homesteader William Macon
- Poorna Jagannathan as the cunning Zoe
- Ulrich Thomsen as the iconic villain Sinestro
The series has brought together a powerhouse creative team. Chris Mundy (Ozark) serves as showrunner and co-writer, alongside Damon Lindelof (Watchmen) and DC Comics legend Tom King. James Gunn and Peter Safran are executive producing, with Slow Horses director James Hawes helming the first two episodes.
Production for Lanterns began in February, but HBO has yet to announce an official premiere date. With Fillion’s casting and the anticipation surrounding DC’s evolving cinematic universe, Lanterns is sure to be a must-watch for superhero fans.
