Thursday’s Recap

~ BIG announcements on Thursday. Starting off with Green Lantern Corps & Green Lantern: New Guardians getting ANNUALS in January 2013

~ GLC writer Peter Tomasi joined Newsarama for a live interview at the convention. Here are some tidbits from him:

  • “The key right now is to really build up Guy.”
  • “Imagine the [Green Lantern] universe being like [the movie] ‘Contagion.”
  • “There’s so much intensity and emotional destruction coming up that is coming up.”
  • “I will stick with [GLC] as long as they have me.”
  • Tomasi says he will not be writing Green Lantern Kyle Rayner again any time soon.
  • “Not too much” development planned for GLC members during Third Army story. Tomasi says he won’t have time to flesh out new members.
  • “Guy and John are really big favorites of mine. I have no intention of knocking them off.”

~ Similarly, DC Comics Co-Publisher Dan DiDio chatted with Newsarama, and had these tidbits to give on JLA, missing characters and more:

  • “I say this for every character missing. Every character can come back with the right story, at the right time with the right team.”
  • “David finch was REALLY anxious to be on a team book.”
  • “There’s a reason why Steve Trevor picked these characters.”

Friday’s Recap

~ BIG NEWS on Friday as DC Comics announce a new lantern centric ongoing series! Larfleeze Gets 10 page Co-Feature in New Ongoing Cosmic Series “THRESHOLD”. Written by Keith Giffen with art by Tom Raney and Scott Kolins drawing the Larfleeze backup. This title spins out of the Green Lantern: New Guardians Annual that was announced just a day prior.

~ During the Green Lantern: Rise of the Third Army panel, Tomasi says he killed Vandor because he didn’t want a “total redshirt” moment to kick off the Third Army. Sorry Vandor fans, but he still totally went out like a redshirt.

~ Also during the panel, Tomasi said that things will get bad for Guy Gardner. So bad that Guy Gardner may lose his ring. “A lot of bad, bad mojo happens to Guy in these next issues,” Tomasi said, adding that Baz would be looking for help from Guy on how to use his ring.

~ On the New Guardians front, new series artist Aaron Kuder said Kyle Rayner will be trying to become a White Lantern while Carol will try to use his power to bring Hal back.

~ Editor Pat McCallum also said that the annual for GL:NG would introduce the “worst Green Lantern of them all”

~ Red Lanterns will be split into three different paths. Red Lanterns Bleez & Rankorr will head to Earth while Dex Starr will seek revenge on Midnighter.

~ The panelists then showed a cover of Atrocitus with an army of Manhunters, saying that there would be blood-magic fueled Manhunters going up against the Third Army, courtesy of Atrocitus, who will also be pursuing revenge against the Guardians.

~ The editors also stated that New Guardians #15 will dive into Larfleeze’s history and family more, and he shares an important scene with the Star Sapphire.

~ A said that he felt the many Green Lantern events were confusing in the light of the DC Universe being five years old. “You can’t get invested in some of the stuff…that stuff existed, you dug it, now let yourself be hit by the next wave of things coming your way,” McCallum said.

~ Neither Parallax or Ion will be returning anytime soon.

~ A fan wanted to know if Hal’s non-Carol girlfriend, Jillian Pearlman, was erased from continuity, to which the panelists told her not everything was erased.

Green Lantern: New Guardians #16 Cover by Aaron Kuder

~ No plans for the Anti-Monitor’s return to the DCU. You’ll have to get your fix in the animated series.

~ Former children of Green Lantern Alan Scott, Jade and Obsidian “have come up in conversation” but no plans. “Everything is open to possibility.” Editor Pat McCallum on Jade returning.

~ There might be a Sinestro vs Arkillo confrontation in the works.

Saturday’s Recap

~ Saturday morning rolled around, and at 10amET, it was official. Cartoon Network had taken GLTAS (and Young Justice) off the air with no warning or word.

~ Back at the convention, things got a lot more positive. At the DC Comics-DARK panel. Animal Man writer Jeff Lemire said a Green Lantern will guest star during the ROTWORLD crossover. But not who you think. You can check the cover featuring that lantern at the link.

~ Warner Bros. Animation Officially Announced JUSTICE LEAGUE: FLASHPOINT for 2013

~ The individual JL titles(Superman,Batman,Flash,GL,Wonder Woman) will get a little tighter with JUSTICE LEAGUE soon.

~ JLA will elaborate on the history between Martian Manhunter vs JL.

~ “Green Lantern has always been about fear, so I thought I would like to create a character that deals with cultural fear, a different type. I looked at my own heritage and a few people I know and we’re having a lot of fun exploring him and how he’s dealing with his fear.” – Johns on Simon Baz

~ Baz’ trainer is a “minor” GL right now and we’ll see that in issue 15.
