VIDEO: Green Lantern: The Animated Series Acting Reference
Today is Saturday, and unfortunately that means lots of Green Lantern: The Animated Series fans are going through withdrawal. So, GLTAS producer Giancarlo Volpe gives us a short video showing us reference process that they go through to make those great episodes we love so much.
Animation is always better with acting reference, even if the “actor” is just an animator with no shame. This is a highlight reel of some stuff we sent to our wonderful overseas studio, CGCG to help them with their scenes.
An extra special thanks to Boola Robello for compiling and editing all this footage. You rock!
This video contains the song “Hal vs. Atrocitus” from the Green Lantern: The Animated Series soundtrack, available on Amazon and iTunes.
Cartoon Network Says DC Nation will Return in January 2013
Today, many Green Lantern: The Animated Series and Young Justice fans were extremely upset. We told you earlier that Cartoon Network had pull the DC Nation block from its lineup for October. Now, after being pounded and pounded with fan response on both Twitter and Facebook, the network announced that the block will return…NEXT YEAR. DC Nation fans are still upset, but rejoice as this is not the end…yet. Cartoon Network seems to be operating on the whim with little regard to fans. As always, we’ll keep you updated.
Hey #DCNation fans! Have you heard?? DC Nation will return in January with all new episodes!

DC Nation Mysteriously Removed from Cartoon Network Schedule
Late Friday night, we received rumblings about Green Lantern: The Animated Series and Young Justice not airing on Saturday morning starting at 10amET as usual. Those rumblings were confirmed twice over, as the official schedule on Cartoon Network’s website had removed both shows from their block to be replaced by repeats of DreamWorks Dragons: Riders of Berk on Saturday and Johnny Test on Sunday (10-11am both days), and officially just several minutes ago on air.
Sorry people – there will apparently be no new episodes of Green Lantern: The Animated Series or Young Justice: Invasion this weekend… or next. Read what GLTAS Producer Giancarlo Volpe said of the situation after the break.
Green Lantern: The Animated Series “Steam Lantern” Episode Preview
USA Today gets a short clip from this Saturday’s episode of GLTAS. They also get a few words from Producer Giancarlo Volpe, who continues to be a one man promotion team for the series.
The new episode of Green Lantern: The Animated Series (airing Saturday morning at 10 ET/PT on Cartoon Network) debuts the Steam Lantern, an alternate-world hero (voiced by Robin Atkin Downes) with a jet pack and green-tinged force blasts but who — unlike Hal Jordan and other Green Lanterns — didn’t receive a power ring from the Guardians of Oa.
“He’s like the ultimate fanboy in that he met a Green Lantern once and he has tried to replicate their powers using steampunk technology,” says Green Lantern producer Giancarlo Volpe. “His character arc deals a lot with what it truly means to be a hero. Is it a birth-given right or is it something that you could see someone else and consider them a hero and decide you are, too? That’s the point of his character.”

Joshua Middleton Shows Off Oa Designs for Green Lantern: The Animated Series
One major problem from an art direction perspective, with GLAS and anything Green Lantern in general, is the overabundance of green. It can be difficult to come up with nice color palettes when everybody and everything in the scene is glowing green. Matters were not made better with the introduction of Red Lanterns, as we now had the world’s weirdest Christmas to deal with.
Anyway, I tried a few things with Oa. Some were just different times of day, others were different takes on the palette. I think we went with the greenest one.
