Kelly Macdonald is swapping her bow and arrow for a sheriff’s badge as she joins the highly anticipated DC Studios series, Lanterns, on HBO. The Brave actress is set to star alongside Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre in this exciting new addition to the DC Universe. Macdonald will take on the role of Sheriff Kerry, a “no-nonsense woman deeply devoted to her family and close-knit town.” With a complex past that has hardened her resolve, Sheriff Kerry’s resilience becomes crucial as dark secrets within her community start to unravel. Adding a twist to the series, Macdonald’s character is also poised to be a love interest for Chandler’s Hal Jordan—a role previously defined by Carol Ferris in Hal Jordan’s comic book lore. My heart just broke. How could you, Hal?!?!
Macdonald’s impressive acting career includes an Emmy win for her performance in the BBC TV movie The Girl in the Café and a nomination for her role in HBO’s critically acclaimed series Boardwalk Empire. Fans will also recognize her as the voice of Disney’s Scottish warrior princess Merida in the Pixar classic, Brave. She first captured audiences’ attention alongside Ewan McGregor in the cult hit Trainspotting (1995).
Most recently, Macdonald starred opposite Damian Lewis in the British comedy horror film The Radleys and wrapped up shooting for the Netflix crime thriller series Department Q in Edinburgh, Scotland, earlier this year. As she steps into the Lanterns universe, her versatile talent is set to bring a new layer of depth to this eagerly awaited DC series.
