Green Lantern: The Animated Series “Steam Lantern” Episode Preview

USA Today gets a short clip from this Saturday’s episode of GLTAS. They also get a few words from Producer Giancarlo Volpe, who continues to be a one man promotion team for the series.

The new episode of Green Lantern: The Animated Series (airing Saturday morning at 10 ET/PT on Cartoon Network) debuts the Steam Lantern, an alternate-world hero (voiced by Robin Atkin Downes) with a jet pack and green-tinged force blasts but who — unlike Hal Jordan and other Green Lanterns — didn’t receive a power ring from the Guardians of Oa.

“He’s like the ultimate fanboy in that he met a Green Lantern once and he has tried to replicate their powers using steampunk technology,” says Green Lantern producer Giancarlo Volpe. “His character arc deals a lot with what it truly means to be a hero. Is it a birth-given right or is it something that you could see someone else and consider them a hero and decide you are, too? That’s the point of his character.”

INJUSTICE: Gods Among Us Cover Art Features Green Lantern

It was just yesterday when I noted that the upcoming DC Comics fighting game Injustice: Gods Among Us still hadn’t announced Green Lantern as a character. Now it seems that I can rest easy, as the box art reveals already announced characters like Batman, Joker, Superman, and Wonder Woman, but also Green Lantern. Which GL is on the cover? Well, it most certainly looks like Hal Jordan. Its only a headshot so it’ll be interesting to see what Hal’s costume looks like in this game. Remember that random GL costume design that made its way around not too long ago? Doesn’t look like we’ll be getting that. In any case, check out the PS3 cover below and WiiU & 360 covers after the break!

Recently off the “Third Army” crossover event kickstarting “Green Lantern Annual,” Van Sciver is coming to Batman’s world with a renewed enthusiasm for making monthly comics, and at CBR, he discusses why Gotham is the perfect stomping ground for him, the joys and challenges of tackling a lesser-known foe and his long term goals for making his mark on Batman for years to come.
