The Return of Bruce Wayne in April

The DC Blog the Source released information that BRUCE WAYNE will return in an all new series written by Grant Morrison.

Set to hit in April, BATMAN: THE RETURN OF BRUCE WAYNE #1 (of 6) “will prove to be Bruce Wayne’s defining moment as a hero, and his toughest challenge yet.”

Apparently after getting hit by Darkseid’s omega beams in Final Crisis, Batman is flung through time where he must do all he can to return!

USA Today has an interview up with Morrison.

Head on over to the DC Blog – THE SOURCE for all the info!

I’m not to surprised by this news, it’s been a year since Bruce was “killed” by Darkseid and with Batman and Robin apparently coming to an end in some form this spring. Not to mention the War of Supermen this summer and Wonder Woman’s major change in status coming up this year. I think its a safe bet that this is leading to the supposed Justice League story in late 2010 that will see more of the formation of the classic League. I do question this kind of “Captain America Reborn” approach, with the time lost Bruce Wayne. But this is Grant Morrison we’re talking about, so I’m not too worry about this since he started Bruce Wayne’s journey in the first place since 52.

REIS of the Black Lanterns: Ivan Talks BLACKEST NIGHT

By Vaneta Rogers

As Blackest Night rounds the corner of the halfway mark, there’s one thing that fans can agree on: Ivan Reis is drawing some of the best work of his career.

Reis started drawing comics professionally when he was only 14 in his home country of Brazil. Five years later, he debuted in American comics with Ghost for Dark Horse. Over his career since, he’s worked on comics for various publishers, including Marvel and DC, but really caught the attention of fans in 2005 with the epic space battles he drew in the DC mini-series Rann-Thanagar War

Since his run on Green Lantern began with Issue #10 in 2006, the Brazilian artist has defined the look of the comic’s multitude of characters and various settings. He and writer Geoff Johns guided the comic through the popular 2007 storyline, “Sinestro Corps War,” and last year’s “Secret Origin,” which told Hal Jordan’s background.

Now DC has tapped him to draw the publisher’s premier event, as Blackest Nightencompasses not only the Green Lantern universe, but most of the DC Universe as well.

Although Reis told Newsarama readers in February that he would be leaving the Green Lanterns behind after Blackest Night, he promised that there would be more projects with Johns in his future.

Newsarama talked to the artist about how Blackest Night is going, how he designed some of those two-page spreads, and whether he’s still counting on that future project with Johns.

Count down to my Wedding: 2 Weeks to GO

Yep, you read right, the count down to my wedding is under way. Two weeks from Saturday, I will no longer be a bachelor but a married man. I know, lots of you are saying congrats and others are saying to run and hide. I have to say I’m both excited and nervous about my up coming nuptials and I have to say I’m very tired. You realize once you get the church squared away, the rings almost paid for and a few other things. It’s those minor details that jump out at you to get finish. Such as wedding programs for the church, getting a hair cut and making sure everyone knows how to get there. I’m also in the middle of doing some home improvement work on my place before the future Mrs. Read moves in. So, I’m doing it all and studying karate and enjoying a great issue of Green Lantern and Nova in the process. I’m happy but I’m tired but in 2 weeks, I’m heading down the aisle.

Another “Crisis” is coming…

but this time, to DVD.  Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths is coming Spring of next year, and I could not be happier.
An original story from award-winning animation/comics writer Dwayne
McDuffie (Justice League) rooted in DC Comics’ popular canon of
“Crisis” stories.
Bruce Timm (Superman Doomsday, Green Lantern) is executive producer.
Lauren Montgomery (Wonder Woman, Green Lantern) and Sam Liu
(Superman/Batman: Public Enemies) are co-directors.
In Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths, a “good” Lex Luthor arrives
from an alternate universe to recruit the Justice League to help save
his Earth from the Crime Syndicate, a gang of villainous characters
with virtually identical super powers to the Justice League. What
ensues is the ultimate battle of good versus evil in a war that
threatens both planets and, through a diabolical plan launched by
Owlman, puts the balance of all existence in peril.
All-star voice cast led by Mark Harmon (NCIS) as Superman, James Woods
(Ghosts of Mississippi) as Owlman, Chris Noth (Sex and the City, Law &
Order) as Lex Luthor, William Baldwin (Dirty Sexy Money) as Batman,
Gina Torres (Serenity, Firefly) as Super Woman and Bruce Davison
(X-Men) as the President.
Oh MY yes. The art style looks amazing and that Owlman is top-notch. The voice cast looks impressive as well and I can’t wait to see further additions to it later on.

Warner Bros. Creates DC ENTERTAINMENT To Maximize DC Brands

If anyone questioned the relationship between Hollywood and comic books before, there’s no doubt about it now.

On the heels of Disney acquiring Marvel Entertainment for $4 billion last week, now comes word Warner Bros. is taking firmer control over DC Comics, overseeing the publishing company under a new division that will report directly to Warner Pictures.

According to an announcement by DC today, Diane Nelson, the former president of Warner Premiere, will serve as President of “DC Entertainment,” as the new division is called. Nelson will report to Jeff Robinov, president of Warner Bros. Pictures Group.

“Based on the great success we’ve had working with DC Comics to create some of the most popular and successful super hero films of all time, I’ve long believed that there was much more we could do across all of Warner Bros.’ businesses with this great body of characters and stories,” said Robinov.

Current DC Comics President and Publisher Paul Levitz will segue into a role as “Writer, Contributing Editor and Overall Consultant to DC Entertainment,” according to DC. Levitz previously reported directly to Warner Bros. Chairman Alan Horn.

Levitz, who worked his way from writer to editor to publisher of the company since 2002, will be “called upon for his deep knowledge and more than three-decade history with DC Comics, both as a comic creator and an executive,” the release by DC stated.

DC Entertainment was created “to maximize the potential of the DC brand,” the release by DC said. Warner Bros. hopes to accomplish the same type of multi-platform marketing of DC’s characters that it did of its Harry Potter franchise, a property that Nelson also oversees.

“The founding of DC Entertainment fully recognizes our desire to provide both the DC properties and fans the type of content that is only possible through a concerted cross-company, multi-platform effort,” said Nelson. “DC Entertainment will help us to formally take the great working relationships between DC Comics and various Warner Bros. businesses to the next level in order to maximize every opportunity to bring DC’s unrivalled collection of titles and characters to life.”

DC’s characters include Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, the Justice League, Green Lantern and The Flash. While a “Green Lantern” movie is set to begin filming this fall and the Batman franchise is waiting for director Christopher Nolan to complete other film commitments after his success with “The Dark Knight,” film development of the other major DC characters has been criticized as slow in comparison to Marvel’s aggressive film slate.

Other DC properties currently being developed include the TV show “Human Target” for a mid-season debut on Fox  and “Lobo,” a movie with director Guy Richie attached. The company also recently released the “Batman: Arkham Asylum” video game and the direct-to-DVD animation movie, “Green Lantern: First Flight,” and produces the “Batman: Brave and the Bold” animated series for Cartoon Network.

More details follow in DC’s official announcement…
