J. Alphonse Nicholson (P-Valley) has landed a key recurring role in Lanterns, HBO’s upcoming drama series based on DC’s Green Lantern comics. He joins an ensemble led by Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre, alongside series regular Kelly Macdonald.
Created by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King, Lanterns follows rookie Green Lantern John Stewart (Pierre) and veteran Hal Jordan (Chandler) as they unravel a chilling Earth-based murder mystery in the heartland of America.
Nicholson will portray the younger version of John Senior, a pivotal figure in the series.
The eight-episode series is produced by HBO in collaboration with Warner Bros. Television and DC Studios. Mundy serves as showrunner, while Lindelof and King co-write and executive produce. James Hawes is set to direct the first two episodes and executive produce as well.
Nicholson is best known for his breakout role as Lil’ Murda on Starz’s P-Valley. His additional credits include FX’s Clipped, Hulu’s White Men Can’t Jump, Netflix’s Madam C.J. Walker opposite Octavia Spencer, Just Mercy starring Michael B. Jordan, and Netflix’s They Cloned Tyrone. On Broadway, he appeared in A Soldier’s Play, which won the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Play.
Nicholson is represented by CESD, AC Management, and attorney Ryan LeVine.
