“The Other History of DC Universe” Focuses on John Stewart, Politics & More from John Ridley

Whoa. Who knew the DC in DC event this weekend would give way to such a big Green Lantern related news? Acclaimed screenwriter John Ridley (12 Years A Slave, American Crime) is writing a series for DC Comics entitled “The Other History of the DC Universe” which will focus on several characters and their personal lives. Check below for the official descriptions and words from Ridley!

Here’s the official synopsis for The Other History of the DC Universe, courtesy of DC Comics:

The story will analyze iconic DC moments and chart sociopolitical gains through the perspectives of DC Super Heroes who come from traditionally disenfranchised groups, including John Stewart, Extraño, Vixen, Supergirl, Katana and Rene Montoya among others. At its core, the series focuses on the lives of those behind the costumes, and their endeavors to overcome real-world issues.

“I could not be more excited by the opportunity to excavate the canon of the DC Universe through a vast array of characters who’ve earned their seat at the table,” Ridley said in a statement.  “I’m very impressed with DC’s commitment to making their history as reverent and urgent as it is engaging and entertaining for all its many fans.”

There’s still a lot of info to be gathered and told to us about the project. Who will the art team consist of? When will we see this series released? How long will it last? So many questions, but one things for certain. John Stewart could always use the attention.
