The ultimate DC fan destination has arrived! This Thursday, January 21, DC will launch DC Universe Infinite, a premium digital comic book service and community. With the largest collection of DC Comics found anywhere, fans can now dive into over 25,000 comic books and graphic novels on DC Universe Infinite. Starting at launch, the platform will continuously add selections from DC’s iconic labels, Vertigo, DC Black Label and Milestone Media, the platform will also feature new comic releases six months after their in-store releases, as well as, Digital First titles available three months after launch, and brand new comic titles exclusive to DC Universe Infinite. Additionally, fans will soon have exclusive access to DC fan events to connect with other DC enthusiasts. Following Thursday’s U.S. launch, DC Universe Infinite will begin expanding globally later this year.
DC Universe Infinite is presented in a sleek, newly designed app with updated personalization features and an enhanced comic reading experience. Current DC UNIVERSE subscribers will not need to create a new account, as their DC UNIVERSE login will transfer to DC Universe Infinite. Fans can download comics, graphic novels and originals for unlimited offline reading on their favorite devices from a smartphone or tablet.
Beginning on April 6, DC’s Green Lantern Corps are back in a new Green Lantern #1 by Geoffrey Thorne and Dexter Soy! Spinning out of Future State: Green Lantern and Infinite Frontier, John Stewart is at the center of the new series—plus Young Justice’s Teen Lantern and Far Sector star Sojourner “Jo” Mullein! Writer Andy Schmidt and artist Kieran McKeown will launch DC’s new Crime Syndicate mini-series on March 2 to tell the origin of the evil Justice League from Earth-3!
From the Future State to the state of things, congrats are in order for Geoffrey Thorne & Tom Raney, the new creative team for Green Lantern #1 coming in March. The news comes from the annual CCXP event in Brazil. Thorne and Raney (writer and artist) will be fresh off their John Stewart leading Future State: Green Lantern “The Last Lanterns” storyline as they kick things into gear with a new number one issue.
Marie Javins has been promoted to Editor-in-Chief, DC Comics, it was announced today by Daniel Cherry III, Senior Vice President and General Manager, DC Comics, to whom Javins will report.
In her new role, Javins will be responsible for developing and overseeing the execution of the company’s annual publishing schedule to grow all DC imprints. She’ll also lead the strategy for expanding worldwide consumer reach of DC Publishing content and provide editorial and creative direction for DC imprints. Working closely with Cherry and Publisher and Chief Creative Officer Jim Lee, she’ll help define positioning, character narratives and prioritization, creative talent selection and brand attributes of each imprint and develop publishing plans with lead editors.
“Marie intrinsically understands the power of comics and their unique ability to entertain and empower, which makes her a perfect choice to be DC’s next Editor-in-Chief,” said Cherry. “In addition to her many creative talents, she’s also incredibly committed to increasing access to this amazing industry by mentoring the next generation of comic book creators and helping them find their voices. I look forward to working with her in her new role.”

Prior to this promotion, Javins served as DC’s Executive Editor of Global Publishing and Digital Strategy, where she edited such acclaimed titles as Justice League, DC Super Hero Girls, Exit Stage Left: The Snagglepuss Chronicles, Superman Smashes the Klan, Harley Quinn: Breaking Glass and Dark Nights: Death Metal. Javins most recently edited Represent! It’s a Bird, by Christian Cooper and Alitha Martinez, the touching and stylized interpretation of Cooper’s altercation in Central Park. She joined DC in 2014 in a temporary position to help the company transfer its businesses from New York to Burbank, CA and then relocated to join the staff.
Prior to DC, Javins worked at Teshkeel Media Group in Kuwait, which licensed DC Comics and others imprints for the Middle East and North Africa as well as created its own original comic series, The 99. She served as Editor-in-Chief at Teshkeel and eventually ran their Cairo office and later their New York operation. Javins has also worked as an editor and colorist at Marvel Comics. A graduate of Antioch College, Javins has taught at New York’s School of Visual Arts, written nine books, and traveled twice around the world via public transport.
I usually make a reference to seeing the future when we take a look at solicitations for the upcoming Green Lantern titles. Well, that schtick never fit so well like it has today. Lets get some info on the upcoming Future State and more in this look at related titles for January 2021.
DC is starting 2021 off with a bang, giving fans a glimpse into futures both near and far, full of current and new characters as the publisher announced plans today for DC Future State, a two-month, line-wide event beginning in January. Through February 2021, the full title lineup will feature a combination of monthly and twice-monthly oversize anthologies, as well as a monthly schedule of miniseries and one-shots.
Warner Bros. has chosen a showrunner for its “Green Lantern” series! Seth Grahame-Smith has gotten the gig and we’ve got a lot more details about the upcoming series. Grahame-Smith will co-write the first episode with producer extraordinaire Marc Guggenheim, also a writer on the 2011 movie we try to forget about. The series has been picked up for a 10 episode first season and is being produced by Greg Berlanti with WB.
