I've always played right/center field. I used to participate in a Softball Lawyer league. Our team got to the playoffs and got spanked in the first round.

I think Catcher is the toughest position to play. Wouldn't you agree?

I've got a Bad ass Arm. And I can swing a Good bat. But I prefer to practice my Sword play.
I was on the Fencing team in High School, and sometimes when I'd be walking out from practice when I would pass the Baseball team practice, they would insult me saying that I was and stuff. One day, I got tired of it and challenged the Team captain or whatever to see who could hit a base ball the farthest.
Now I could chop a Block of Wood in two with a light swing, in mid air. Hitting a Ball, was easy. I sent that sucker so far out. He lost by 50 yards.

Which baseball position would get your vote for second most difficult?

In my opinion, it would be shortstop. What do you think?

Shortstop isn't hard is you're alert and skillful. First base is a position I could never thrive at.

Yes, it's interesting, we each possess certain skill sets, don't we?

For me, playing First Base is relatively "easy." (I also like the outfield.)

Playing Shortstop or Catcher would definitely take me out of my comfort zone.

Positions which require leadership ability (like Shortstop or Catcher) are not my strong suit. lol

First a'int no picnic either. It takes either a lefty or a badass righty to play, and a lot of the action comes your way.

You make a good point! I guess that's why I like playing First Base so much:

1) I'm a lefty.

2) I like the fact that "a lot of action comes (my) way."

As a lefty, First Base is the only infield defensive position for me!

I can certainly see why you'd choose third base as second hardest, but I chose shortshop because:

1) I think you have to have a stronger arm for the SS position,

2) I think it's mentally tougher to play SS because of all the multi-tasking required, and

3) I think it requires leadership skills that the 3B position doesn't because the SS has to coordinate and communicate with the Second Baseman so much.

That's just my personal opinion, of course. I may be "way off base" on this one! lol

I was a catcher through most of high school, and it was incredibly tough, but also rewarding. Catching a runner stealing or tagging a runner trying to score were my favorite moments of the game, second only to clutch hitting.

Something I found was how hard it was to be a both a successful catcher and strong hitter. So much time spent with the pitchers and defensive drills doesn't leave much practice time (or energy) for BP.

And yes, you are correct: catchers=leadership. There's a reason why so many World Series winning skippers are former catchers.

Wink

I like to swing my bat, and pitch too. Everytime I play, I try to strike a homerun too. Hehe.

That's cool. Is there any particular position you prefer to play (or are allowed to play) on a regular basis?

What qualities do you think a good shortstop ought to possess?

What are some of the things you liked best about playing Shortstop?
