Speaking with Comicosity<\/a>, Green Lantern <\/em>writer Robert Venditti discussed a bit about the upcoming month long lantern event “Lights Out” Below you’ll find some of the highlights where Venditti discusses supporting casts, the death of a lantern corps and more. If you’re behind on your lantern titles…spoilers beware.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Venditti on the supporting cast of Lanterns:<\/p>\n I\u2019ve been surprised by how deep the roster of supporting characters is and how much fun they are to write.\u00a0\u00a0So much of my pitch focused on Hal by necessity, but making him the leader of the Green Lantern Corps and basing him on Oa has allowed me to spend a lot of time with characters like Kilowog, Soranik Natu, Voz, and others.\u00a0\u00a0It\u2019s something I\u2019m going to continue to do, particularly after \u201cLights Out,\u201d when readers will start to meet some new Lanterns as well.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n On expanding the mythology of Green Lantern with “Lights Out”:<\/p>\n \u201cLights Out\u201d was a large part of my pitch for my first year on\u00a0Green Lantern<\/i>, and when DC told me they wanted to feature Relic\u2019s origin story in one of their Villains Month issues\u2014and have the story told in twenty splash pages\u2014that essentially meant I was being given the chance to create an entire universe and then blow it up in just twenty panels.\u00a0\u00a0How do you not get inspired by something like that?\u00a0\u00a0I saw it as an opportunity to tell a story that not only expanded the\u00a0Green Lantern<\/i>\u00a0mythology, but also doubled as a primer of sorts that could introduce new readers to the concept of the emotional spectrum and the various ring corps.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Why was the decision made to kill of the Blue Lantern Corps?<\/p>\n It\u2019s an opportunity to bring new conflicts into the\u00a0Green Lantern<\/i>\u00a0line.\u00a0\u00a0The Blue Lanterns are arguably the most powerful of all the corps, and their ability to supercharge green rings has often been used as a resource.\u00a0\u00a0Without the Blue Lanterns, the balance of the spectrum is tipped in a way that\u2019s only going to make things more difficult for Hal and the rest of the Green Lantern Corps.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Venditti when asked what his goal is for Hal Jordan:<\/p>\n It\u2019s about finding the qualities that make Hal unique as a character and placing him in situations that will highlight those qualities \u2014 both the good and the bad.\u00a0\u00a0How is Hal\u2019s leadership style different from John Stewart\u2019s or Guy Gardner\u2019s or even Batman\u2019s?\u00a0\u00a0Hal is very much a man who acts on instinct, something that goes back to his roots as a fighter pilot, so how does that approach help him or hinder him?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Venditti says each of the four (main) lantern heroes will have a big role in “Lights Out”<\/p>\n We worked hard to make sure each of the Earth Lantern leads \u2014 Hal, John, Guy, and Kyle \u2014 have a major role to play in \u201cLights Out.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0This is a story that\u2019s going to have significant, long-term effects on not just the\u00a0Green Lantern<\/i>\u00a0line, but the wider DC universe as well.\u00a0\u00a0Some of those effects will be apparent, and others will hopefully surprise people.\u00a0\u00a0The consequences can\u2019t be overstated.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Speaking with Comicosity, Green Lantern writer Robert Venditti discussed a bit about the upcoming month long lantern event “Lights Out” Below you’ll find some of the highlights where Venditti discusses supporting casts, the death of a lantern corps and … Continued<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":4,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[3],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-5598","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-news"],"jetpack_sharing_enabled":true,"jetpack_featured_media_url":"","_links":{"self":[{"href":"http:\/\/thegreenlanterncorps.com\/web\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/5598","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"http:\/\/thegreenlanterncorps.com\/web\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"http:\/\/thegreenlanterncorps.com\/web\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/thegreenlanterncorps.com\/web\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/4"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/thegreenlanterncorps.com\/web\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=5598"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"http:\/\/thegreenlanterncorps.com\/web\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/5598\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"http:\/\/thegreenlanterncorps.com\/web\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=5598"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/thegreenlanterncorps.com\/web\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=5598"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/thegreenlanterncorps.com\/web\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=5598"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
