The lantern titles have gone through a massive overhaul with Johns and company departing and its only right that we look at how Robert Venditti and his squad do.

Last month saw Geoff Johns, Peter Tomasi, Tony Bedard and Peter Milligan step away from the books. Johns’ super oversized (and $7.99 cover price) Green Lantern #20 pulled in the second most money of all comics that month, just behind Marvel’s X-Men #1. GL #20 sold approximately 67,414 copies, which makes it 18th overall and 6th highest DC Comics title. Not shown in the picture below, but Earth 2 #12 landed at 43(43,983 sold), Green Lantern Corps #20 came in at #45 overall (43,026), the Earth 2 Annual #1 at 49(41,325), Tony Bedard’s Green Lantern: New Guardians #20 just one spot below that with 40,569 sold, Milligan’s Red Lanterns #20 at 64(33,923) and the sorta-kinda lantern book Threshold far below at 191(11,209 sold).

Now lets look at what is up with the New Era of lantern titles and how they fared during the month of June, compared to Johns’ departing team. With DC launching two new high profile comics starring Batman and Superman, I find it quite amazing that Robert Venditti’s Green Lantern #21 managed to do what it did. Oh, I should probably tell you what it did. GL #21 not only managed to stay in the top 20 comics sold, but jumped up one spot in sales! Should we break this down? Obviously the aforementioned X-Men book took a nasty drop from #1 to #17, and Mark Millar’s Kick-Ass 3 will likely do the same next month, paving the way for GL to rise even further.

So what about the other lantern titles, including the newly launched Larfleeze book? Well first off, lets not forget about Simon Baz! His Justice League of America #5 came in just two spots from Venditti’s GL #21 at number 20. Van Jensen’s Green Lantern Corps #21 had a good jump in sales. GLC went up two spots from last month to 38th overall, selling 46,475. Very impressive. Earth 2 #13(42,916 sold) has the title slip just one spot down. We’ll have to keep an eye on that book as James Robinson will step down soon and Tom Taylor will replace him. Green Lantern: New Guardians #21 mimicked GLC and got a two spot bump up to 48th overall with 42,290 sold.

The team of Keith Giffen/J.M. DeMatteis/Scott Kolins debuted Larfleeze #1 and it did far better than what Threshold has been doing. Debuting at #59 just behind Marvel’s Fantastic Four. And just two spots ahead the greedy lantern? Its the angry lanterns! Red Lanterns #21 comes in at number 57 with 37,312 sold. That’s a seven spot jump and a 4,000 copy increase from last month!

We all know that comics lose readers at a remarkable pace(as I mentioned with X-men twice before), so it’ll be really interesting to see where the new era level off at. I surely didn’t expect an increase for all five new era books, so I look forward to seeing them keep it up as best as possible.

We don’t usually report on Green Lantern sales, but I think now would be a good time to start.
