DC Comics just announced “Forever Evil”, the first New52 event series by Geoff Johns and David Finch<\/a>. Now, the big shots, the head honchos, the Co-Publishers of DC Comics, Jim Lee and Dan DiDio talk about the series via Buzzfeed<\/a>. Highlights below.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Repercussions for “Forever Evil”?<\/p>\n Dan DiDio: They might make it through September, but I can\u2019t guarantee they\u2019ll make it through the entire series. That includes what might be one of the most talked about events for DC Comics this year. One of our major recognizable characters will be affected in a very dramatic way.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Jim Lee:<\/b> If you\u2019re going to do an event that impacts the entire universe, there have to be consequences or repercussions, and this one is going to be meaningful. It all comes out of the great story starting in September.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n What are the chances of a villain getting his own series post-“Forever Evil”?<\/p>\n DiDio: There is a definite chance of that, and we\u2019re still discussing that right now, as a matter of fact. We\u2019ll also have three series taking place simultaneously to help support Forever Evil<\/i>, and you\u2019ll see events taking place in books from Justice League<\/i> to Suicide Squad<\/i> that will touch on this event. When we launch this series, it won\u2019t just take place in one title, but across a multitude of titles. Each of the books in that series will continue to build from month to month.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Dan DiDio confirms Green Lantern <\/em>will shift to Relic<\/em> for September’s issue:<\/p>\n DD:<\/b> You\u2019re going to see some new villains that haven\u2019t been introduced in the New 52 here – but you won\u2019t be seeing anybody for the first time. There\u2019s a new villain that\u2019s being introduced in the Green Lantern<\/i> series that\u2019s being written by Robert Venditti, so the character of Relic will just be seen in June for the first time, and yet he\u2019s going to be showcased in one of the Villain Month titles.<\/span> You\u2019re also going to be seeing characters like First Born. He\u2019s a new villain that was introduced in the Wonder Woman books. There\u2019s also H\u2019El, who is a character that\u2019s been appearing in a number of Superman\u2019s titles.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n 3D Motion Covers?<\/p>\n JL:<\/b> This is actually our first press announcement on this: we\u2019re also commemorating this event by doing something really unheard of, I think, as far as a major publisher – we\u2019re actually adding a special cover on every single villain\u2019s book. It\u2019s called a 3D motion cover and it\u2019s essentially artwork that\u2019s been separated onto different layers, so when you hold the cover, which is a premium stock cover, and you slightly rotate the comic book left or right or up and down, the images move a bit.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n DD:<\/b> It\u2019s an incredible 3D effect that shows depth of field on the covers. It\u2019s the full cover stock, so it\u2019s not anything that\u2019s been glued on. More importantly, it\u2019s actually pliable and soft to the touch – it\u2019s a brand new technology and we\u2019re going to be the first ones debuting in this fashion.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n JL:<\/b> They\u2019re amazing covers. It\u2019s an effect that you haven\u2019t seen before, and like Dan said, it\u2019s an entire cover. Any time in the past that they\u2019ve done specialty covers, you would only get like a small trading card size image on the cover that was a hologram or lenticular bit of technology. This is the whole cover and it is amazing. The colors and the depth of field allows you to actually see the logo of the new book. Let\u2019s say the Joker is taking over, it\u2019ll be the Batman<\/i> title in the background, and you\u2019ll see the Joker<\/i> title splattered on top of the Batman<\/i> logo itself. It really sells the concept in a very visual way.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n <\/p>\n When I asked for clarification on the above cover for Green Lantern<\/em>, DC says “They’re examples of the motion you’ll see when you have them in-hand – not totally final.” So there’s that!
