Laura Linney has officially joined the cast of HBO and DC Studios\u2019 highly anticipated superhero series Lanterns, which premieres August 16 on HBO and HBO Max.<\/p>\n

The Emmy-winning actress appears briefly in the newest trailer for the upcoming DC adaptation, which stars Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre as John Stewart.<\/p>\n

What Is HBO\u2019s Lanterns About?<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Based on the iconic Green Lantern characters from DC Comics, Lanterns follows veteran Lantern Hal Jordan and rookie recruit John Stewart as they investigate a mysterious murder in the American heartland.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The series blends cosmic superhero storytelling with grounded detective drama. Showrunner Chris Mundy described the project as \u201cas much of a buddy cop show as a superhero show.\u201d<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

According to Mundy, the emotional core of the series centers on legacy and succession.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

> \u201cOur show is in a lot of ways about replacement \u2014 when should someone step aside and when is it time for the next person to take the reins?\u201d Mundy said in an interview with Men\u2019s Health.<\/p>\n

He also praised Aaron Pierre\u2019s portrayal of John Stewart, highlighting the balance between strength and restraint in the character.<\/p>\n
