Nicole Ari Parker Joins HBO\u2019s Lanterns as John Stewart\u2019s Mother<\/p>\n

Nicole Ari Parker, best known for her role in And Just Like That<\/em>, has secured a recurring role in HBO\u2019s upcoming DC Studios drama series Lanterns.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Parker will portray Bernadette Stewart, the mother of John Stewart, one of the Green Lantern Corps’ most iconic members.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The series follows Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) and John Stewart (Aaron Pierre), two elite members of the Green Lantern Corps, an intergalactic force dedicated to protecting the universe. These heroes wield powerful rings that grant them a vast array of superhuman abilities, allowing them to defend their sector from cosmic threats.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Who is Bernadette Stewart?<\/p>\n <\/p>\n HBO has described Parker\u2019s character, Bernadette, as:<\/p>\n <\/p>\n \u00a0“Formidable and tenacious, Bernadette refuses to give up, no matter how insurmountable the odds. At her core, she\u2019s a fiercely protective mother who has worked her entire life to ensure that she and her family will not be passed over.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n <\/p>\n Lanterns was officially greenlit in June as the first live-action series developed under James Gunn and Peter Safran\u2019s DC Studios. The show received an eight-episode, straight-to-series order from HBO, with Chris Mundy (True Detective: Night Country, Ozark) serving as showrunner and executive producer.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Alongside Parker, the cast includes:<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Kelly Macdonald<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Garret Dillahunt<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Poorna Jagannathan<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Ulrich Thomsen as Sinestro, one of the Green Lantern Corps’ greatest foes.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n John Stewart, a military veteran, is among DC\u2019s first Black superheroes and a fan-favorite Green Lantern. While the Hal Jordan character was previously portrayed by Ryan Reynolds in the 2011 Green Lantern movie, Stewart will be taking center stage in this series. Meanwhile, Nathan Fillion will portray Guy Gardner, another Green Lantern, in Gunn\u2019s upcoming Superman film, set to release in July.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Beyond Lanterns, Parker will return for Season 3 of And Just Like That, premiering later this year on Max.
