A listing of all known Wing Commander alien races. From the games, books, docs, and cartoon.

DIOSCURI
A primitive alien race much like the Mopokes, though one that viewed the Kilrathi as gods. The Kilrathi used this fact to their advantage by arming the Dioscuri with old-style weapons to fight against the Confederation in 2654.

DOLOSIANS
A strong, intelligent alien race of the Dolos System, though one not yet spaceborne. They were enslaved in the early twenty-seventh century by the Kilrathi Empire. Their world, Dolos, became the site of the 2654 Sivar-Eshrad ceremony.

DOUBLE-HELIX [ CODENAME ]
An alien race that "appear to be carbon-based arthropods which which communicate through scents and pheromones." Their name is derived from the double-helix shape of their spacecraft. A Confederation probe that returned in 2654.080 reported this, and the Double-Helix have made no known contact with the Confederation since. A 2681.020 analysis of alien races indicates the Double-Helix "has very little concept of history in the human sense." At some point in time beyond 2654.080, one Dr. Justin Klien, thinking himself prepared for anything, first attempted direction communication with the race through modified holo-link transmissions and ended up having his cerebellum fried by a keyed stream of (later termed) freneli-complex harmonic samples. What the Double-Helix intended only as a warm hello turned into a digital icepick to the brain.

EYOKA
An alien race of unknown appearance and nature conquered by the Kilrathi Empire, an ill-fated conflict that preceded the Kilrathi conquering of the Wu. It is not known if any Eyoka survivors are involved with the Confederation.

FIREKKANS
A bird-like race originating from the Epsilon Sector planet Firekka. The Confederation encountered this race sometime before 2634, and immediately some of its people signed up for the TCNSA Academy. In 2655, as the Firekkans were about to cement their peoples joining of the Confederation, the TCS Tigers Claw was called in to defend Firekka from the Kilrathi, who were about to proceed with their ceremonial Sivar-Eshrad ceremony on the planets surface. The Kilrathi were successfully fought off, but many of their people were captured and taken to a Ghorah Khar station, where they were soon rescued by Ian "Hunter" St. John (a Tigers Claw pilot), James "Paladin" Taggart (a Special Operations member), KKai (a Firekkan native), and Kirha (a Kilrathi defector). By 2681, the Firekkans populace had spread into neighboring worlds and a second star system, Tkirsa. The migrating Firekkans then formed the Firekkan Planetary Alliance.

GORTH
An alien race of unknown appearance and nature conquered by the Kilrathi Empire. It is not known if any Gorth survivors are involved with the Confederation.

HAGARIN
Aliens of unknown appearance and nature, possibly related to the Haggans. Some of them are known to have joined the Confederation.

HAGGANS
Aggressive aliens of unknown appearance that find the Jarma "to be a particular delicacy." It is not known if the Haggans are involved with the Confederation.

HARI
A rapid-reproducing alien race that goes world to world, sapping each one of its resources until they are gone, and then move on, leaving the rest behind. They are known to have made great ships for this purpose that could journey between worlds "in trips that took lifetimes." The Haris means of selectng who would rule involve assassination, a "chaotic and degrading system that left them ripe for conquest." Not knowing of Jump Drive and possessing a Slower Than Light drive, they were easy prey for the Kilrathi Empire, who crushed them and took over their space. The survivors took their own lives.

JARMA
An alien race that is lizard-like in appearance. At least a few of them are involved in trading, particularly along the Landreich. It is not known if the Jarma are involved with the Confederation.

KA
An alien race of unknown appearance and nature unconquered by the Kilrathi. It is not known if any Ka survivors are involved with the Confederation.

KILRATHI
An alien race of cat-like warriors, originating from the planet Kilrah. In 1320 B.C. they encountered the "Star Gods," a humiliating meeting that created the Kilrathi penchant for war and glory. The Kilrathi clans gained space travel and were united under a common cause under the rule of Clan Kiranka in the twenty-third century, when, after enduring their Seventh Dynastic War, the Shata/Utara race visited Kilrah, giving them the secret of Jump Drive. After taking the secret and slaughtering the Shata/Utara, the Kilrathi Empire formed, and began its chain of interstellar conflicts. Following the conquest of the Shata/Utara, the Kilrathi combatted first the Ka, then the Sorn, the Gorth, the Eyoka, the Wu, the Hari, the Varni, the Dolosiansall conflicts in which the Kilrathi utterly annihilated and/or enslaved their enemies. When their battle with the Mantu, which began off-and-on in approximately 2431, was fought to a stalemate around 2598, the Kilrathi found themselves withdrawing for the first time ever. Then, in 2629.105, the Kilrathi Empire made "official" first contact with the Terran Confederation, abruptly destroying the exploratory vessel Iason (though the real first contact between humanity and the Kilrathi occurred in 2621.315, when Dr. C.L. Kohl witnessed the Kilrathis yearly Sivar-Eshrad ceremony on Ghorah Khar). By 2634.186, war was officially declared on the Kilrathi Empire, and it was fought with neither side having gained a significant advantage over the other. Finally, on 2669.267, Colonel Christopher "Maverick" Blair of the TCS Victory dropped a Temblor Bomb on Kilrah, destroying the Kilrathi homeworld. After the Treaty of Torgo/Treaty of Ko-bar Yagar was signed, the Kilrathi surrendered, ending the 35-year war that cost trillions of lives on both sides. The Kilrathi then went back to being a collection of warring clans, fighting it out until the infighting quelled. By 2681, what was formerly the Kilrathi Empire became known as the Kilrathi Assembly of Clans. Starting in 2681.020, the Kilrathi found themselves faced with an invasion of the Nephilim, who the Kilrathi prophets believed to be the "Star Gods" and a Confederation analysis of alien species speculated to be the Mantu or "Star Gods." After the efforts of the TCS Midway and Commodore Christopher Blairs sacrifice shut down the Nephilims wormhole gateway into Kilrathi territory, the invasion was halted, and the Kilrathi Assembly of Clans was left even worse off than before.

MANTU
Also referred to as "the darkness" by the Kilrathi, this fierce alien race of an unknown appearance became involved in a savage war with the Kilrathi off-and-on for some 169 years, beginning with an initial assault by the Mantu on approximately the year 2431. Then, on approximately the year 2598, the conflict between the Kilrathi and the Mantu was declared "a draw," and both sides returned to their respective territories, each turning their attentions to easier races to conquer. The Kilrathi recall that "their onslaught had come suddenly and with near overwhelming power, and then they had simply disappeared back into the void, apparently threatened by another unknown race." In the passing decades since the the stalemate, the Kilrathi "aggrandized, vilified, and generally mythologized their former foe," as it seems to be an intrinsic Kilrathi trait to "deify/demonize those enemies which cannot be defeated." Well into 2668 and beyond, after the Mantu completed a war against an unknown neighbor, the Kilrathi feared that "the Mantu might in fact be far superior in their weapons technology" and "that there would come a day when the Mantu might turn their full attention on the Empire," fears that become a reason for concern when it was reported just prior to the destruction of Kilrah by Colonel Christopher Blair that the Mantu were stirring along their borders. When Kilrah was destroyed and the Kilrathi Empire surrendered to the Confederation in 2669, the Kilrathi warned that "now the Empire will fall...and the enemies who harassed our outer marches will now have nothing to stand between them and your Confederation." A 2681.020 analysis of alien races states that "once the propaganda and legend are stripped away, the Mantu seem to have been an insular, somewhat paranoid race of explorers and prospectors who reacted with extreme prejudice to Kilrathi aggression" and that "the Kilrathi fear of the Mantu’s return is well documented, but may well be merely a paranoid, atavistic response to an enemy left alive and at large (another well-documented trait of Kilrathi psychology). There is nothing substantial in the historical record to suggest any explicit promises of vengeance from the Mantu civilization against the Kilrathi." The Mantu, as well as the "Star Gods," remain a suspect for the true identify of the Nephilim.

MOPOKES
A pre-space alien culture of unknown appearance and nature native to Rostov III in the Rostov System of the Vega Sector. As of 2681, the comparatively primitive Mopokes are merely under careful observation by the Confederation.

NEPHILIM [ CODENAME ]
A crustacean/insect-like alien race which began a brutal invasion of Kilrathi and Confederation space beginning in 2681.018. The TCS Midway led the assault against the Nephilim, whose invasion was halted upon the destruction of their wormhole entrance into Kilrathi space. The Nephilims true identity is speculated by Confed in a 2681.020 analysis of alien races to be either the Mantu or "Star Gods."

OASIANS
A peaceful race of aliens that worship their environment. They have a non-aggression treaty with both the Confederation and the Kilrathi Empire. The TCS Tiger’s Claw once escorted a group of Oasian transports in 2654 before taking leave on the planet Oasis.

SHATA
A peaceful alien race that visitied Kilrah, the Kilrathi homeworld, in the twenty-third century. The warring clans of the Kilrathi, nearly becoming embroiled in an Eighth Dynastic War, came together in a common cause when the Shata gave the Kilrathi rudimentary space travel in trade before being slaughtered by their Kilrathi hosts.

SORN
An alien race of unknown appearance and nature conquered by the Kilrathi. It is not known if any Sorn survivors are involved with the Confederation.

"STAR GODS"
At approximately 1320 B.C., at the dawn of their civilization and Cult of Sivar, the Kilrathi held a myth that in these ancient times, warrior-gods descended from the stars and challenged the warriors of their homeworld of Kilrah to battle. But when the Kilrathi army assembled, the gods scorned the force, pronouncing the Kilrathi unworthy of their attention. The gods left, promising to return and battle the Kilrathi when they became worthy. This myth is the source of the famous "Prophecy of Sivar" (which many later Terran xenohistorians believe predates its reported authoress, the prophetess Kt’lan, and even the historical prophet Sivar himself, by several centuries), which formed a philosophic cornerstone of Kilrathi culture. The Prophecy and its surrounding myth became explicitly used by religious propagandists throughout Kilrathi history to justify the race’s militaristic and expansionist tendencies. All future battles, including the Eyoka, Hari, Gorth, Ka, Mantu, Shata/Utara, Sorn, Varni, Wu, and Terran conflicts, became seen by the Cult of Sivar as preparation for the final challenge of the "star gods," who (accidentally or on purpose) set the pattern of Kilrathi civilization in motion. The "Star Gods," along with the Mantu, remain a suspect for the true identity of the Nephilim.

STELTEK
An ancient membranous-like alien race that originated millennia ago from the Milky Way Galaxy, but later left it for reasons unknown. In 2669, a privateer in the Gemini Sector encountered a Steltek that explained that the hostile drone ship he encountered shortly before was created to be an automated device meant to eliminate all traces of the Steltek race after they had all migrated to another part of space thousands of years prior, hoping to leave developing civilizations across the galaxy’s worlds no hint of their past presence or even existence when they journeyed (or "retreated," as the Steltek in question said) beyond the Milky Way. The Steltek drone was stalking the privateer because of the Steltek gun he had installed on his vessel from the derelict Steltek ship left in the Delta Prime System. The Steltek boosted the power on the privateer’s Steltek cannon, giving it enough strength to destroy the drone he then fought and destroyed with the help of Terrell’s fleet. The Steltek retrieved its race’s forgotten derelict ship in the Delta Prime System and disappeared back into deep space.

UTARA
A peaceful alien race that visitied Kilrah, the Kilrathi homeworld, in the twenty-fifth century. Like the peaceful Shata before two centuries before them, the equally peaceful Utara were slaughtered for the gift they brought their Kilrathi hosts, this time Jump Drive technology. Slaughtered by the Kilrathi, who considered them "the equivalent of the herds of semi-intelligent beasts which had once wandered the homeworld, unable to defend themselves (the hunting of which was considered an exercise merely to fill the stomach"), the Utara were killed for their generosity. It is unknown if there were any survivors, and it is unknown if any are involved with the Confederation.

VARNI
Reptilian beings with poisonous fangs. The Kilrathi Empire assaulted athe Varni on approximately the year 2594, following their conquest of the Wu. Though the Varni had superior technology to them at the time, the Kilrathi conquered them in a surprise strike. The few Varni that survived fled to the Confederation, where a large number of them joined.

WU
An alien race with members of "a half-ton bulk" that was conquered by the Kilrathi Empire in a conflict that followed the Kilrathi conquering of the Eyoka. Some of them are known to have joined the Confederation, while others became merchants and traders.

YAN
An alien race of unknown appearance that became involved in a war with the Confederation in the twenty-fourth century, a war they lost. This was evidently the Terran Confederations first confrontation with an alien race, first known interstellar conflict, and possibly even first contact of any kind with an alien race. The Yans current status is not known.
