Sonic the Hedgehog was my first comic book. I have been reading the book for most of my fairly young life. That's about 20 odd years, for those who need that trivial information. Why am telling you this? Well, because Sega and Archie Comics have decided to celebrate Sonic's 25th anniversary within Sonic's ongoing comic series. Soon I will come off as just another elitist comic book reader by using simple compare and contrast reasoning, but first I'd like you to know something. Sonic the Hedgehog is what all superhero comics should aspire to be.

So what do I hate in typical superhero comics that Sonic, of all things, does so well? Quite a few things, obviously because I'm writing this article, so lets break it down into the simplest of things. Continuity and Characters.

CONTINUITY

I used to be a slave to it continuity. I don't just mean story to story consistency. I once drove to a Staples store to buy a whiteboard to mimic the board Batman editor Mike Marts once displayed to IGN. I wanted to prove that the DC Universe could be properly explained in a sufficient timeline from month to month, and even week to week. I didn't go through it, because sanity took hold of me, but there are still times where I get those urges. I tell you this not to trouble you with my awkwardness but to tell you that I don't get those urges when I read Sonic.

Essentially reading Sonic the Hedgehog is like reading Batman.
