That's right. You knew when you clicked here exactly what I was referring to. You knew that I would be slamming on my shift key while letting my finger rest upon the 1 key. You knew that I would be extremely disappointed with the decision to make Green Lantern: Rebirth an ABSOLUTE volume.

If you listen to the Green Lantern Spotlight Podcast, then you already know that I enjoyed the story immensely. Would I buy it in hardcover? More than likely I would. But in no way would I spend or advise someone to spend their money on a story that simply doesn't live up to the Absolute billing.



Let me take the time to congratulate Geoff Johns & Ethan Van Sciver, both phenomenal talents. They deserve the highest of honors in their fields. Now let me give you my main reason why their work together on Rebirth should NOT be collected in ABSOLUTE edition.

It simply does not reach the standard set by previously collected stories. I don't want to start comparing GL: Rebirth to Crisis on Infinite Earths or Absolute Kingdom Come. That would be highly disrespectful to all involved in making those stories. However, I do want YOU to compare them. I want you to think about paying $75.00 for a story that doesn't deserve to be sold in such a light. You know my stance, and I'm not here to sway you. I just want you to step your game up.

Let us take a second though and realize what's happening here. If ABSOLUTE Green Lantern: Rebirth sells well, we all know that (the much better story) Sinestro Corps War will be soon to follow in the Absolute(ly terrible decision) path. And if Blackest Night continues to light the fire that is Geoff Johns then we'll no doubt see "The Hal Jordan Trilogy" complete. Nothing against Hal "Highball" Jordan but there are still TONS of uncollected stories that need to be published for the first time before we go breaking the mold(and quality standards) for you. Sorry bud.

When did ABSOLUTE become a marketing tool to help current series? Shouldn't we be throwing our money away on the very best and nothing less? Is Rebirth even the best Hal Jordan story, let alone Green Lantern? I find it absolutely terrible that these questions were obviously ignored when making the decision DC Comics did.
