How many comic book fans dream of writing Batman, dream of penciling the next Final Crisis, or dream of putting the vivid colors to issue #1000 of Superman? Well, Senior VP/Executive Editor for DC Comics Dan DiDio is no different from the rest of us.

According to a report from Ain't It Cool News, DiDio will be TAKING OVER a monthly title. Here's the quote:

DD: Yeah, I’ll give you a scoop. I’ll give you a spoiler. You know what, I had so much fun writing METAL MEN that I’m actually going to be taking over a monthly title coming up at the end of the year.
For those who don't know, DiDio is currently writing a METAL MEN feature in Wednesday Comics. Which I may point out, isn't his first stint into writing comics. He wrote 6 or 7 issues of Superboy back in 2002, and a few stories in DC's annual Holiday Specials.



I spend too much money on monthly ongoing series and hardcovers to buy holiday specials, but I heard NOTHING but praise for DiDio's AQUAMAN story in DC's Christmas issue last year.

Now I'm not a rabid DiDio hater like some would initially believe. In fact, I think he has allowed for a lot of interesting stories to be brought to the table. However, I FEAR the idea of him taking over one of my ongoing series. I don't even think his Metal Men story has been bad, but I'd much rather see him pay a proven writer than risk me dropping the title because of his presence.

He has to realize that he's Dan DiDio right? He has to realize that there is going to be lots of initial skepticism and blunt hatred for him replacing someone on an existing title, right?

Come on Dan, I know you're a smart guy. Think this through before you even start that 3rd arc Adventure Comics.

Seems like a good fit though right? Geoff Johns is knee deep in so many titles it would seem natural for him to release another title so he can concentrate on others. Matt Sturges said at ComicCon that Geoff was initially going to write the intro arc for JSA(that splits the team) before Bill Willingham and himself decided to co-write it.

What other title could Dan possibly WANT to take over? And by the end of the year no less. Maybe he'll just be doing co-features in Adventure Comics? Or maybe he was just messing around and I(and others) are panicking for nothing?

That would suck.
