Back again for Wally's Pick of the Week! In case you don't know, this is where I pick MY favorite comic book issue of the week out of all my books. This week was VERY short, which means sooner or later, I'm going to spend a load on books. That being said, my pick this week is the very surprising Green Lantern #37

So, I'm going to half ass it this week, and lower the very high quality of the blog, and just tell you to PICK THIS UP! That is, if you haven't already. And seeing as I'm almost a week late on this post(again), it's highly unlikely that you don't have it. You have to pick this up for the obvious reasons, its essential to the upcoming DCU event Blackest Night, and if you're ANY GL fan, you can appreciate the art of Ivan Reis. I have nothing but praise for him in this issue. Flawless.

Of course, as you already. Hal Jordan becomes a RED LANTERN! All the talk about Hal becoming a Blue Lantern(both in the book and online) just misguided us, and Hal's hatred towards Sinestro earns him a Red Lantern ring. Now Hal is dual ring wielding and fired up! I'm 100% this Red Lantern "phase" will end by GL #38, but it was a interesting twist that I hadn't seen coming AT ALL. Great work Mr. Johns....and Happy Birthday as well.

Favorite moments of the issue? Easily the last page where Hal become a Red Lantern. But there are other moments in the issue that were nicely done, and made even better with Reis' great artwork. One of those would be the "rescue" of Sinestro by a gang of his corps. That page was beautiful and done so well. Also, the death of Laira was pretty unemotional for me, but definitely a great moment. It really was a badass moment for Sinestro. In fact, I yelled "DAMN THAT'S GANGSTA! OH SHIT! SINESTRO'S GANGSTA!" It was that good of a moment, and would have been a fine high point for an issue.

Final Rating: 5/5

Other Comics This Week:

Deathstroke(Faces of Evil): 2/5 Eh, high expectations, low delivery.

Robin #182: 4.5/5 Great issue, good art. Can't wait to read the final issue. Fabian is getting really good

Supergirl #37: 3/5 Pretty good, but I expected better at this point

Dark Avengers #1: 3/5 Can you say "Overhyped"? I'll read more, for now.

Mighty Avengers #21: 3/5 Can you say "Dropped"? Its an okay read, but I've been needing to trim a few books for the return of Flash and all those Battle For The Cowl issues.

See you next week where we get the final issue of FINAL CRISIS, also the last issue of Final Crisis: Revelations, Batman #685, Wonder Woman #28, and I'll probably buy the Huntress:Year One because I'm somehow interested in the character..especially with her potential(coughPROBABLEcough) appearance in Battle For The Cowl.
