Back again for Wally's Pick of the Week! In case you don't know, this is where I pick MY favorite comic book issue of the week out of all my books. Pretty easy pick this week, despite the usual competition. My pick of the week is Green Lantern #36!
GL #36 has been a long time coming, and thankfully we got a lot of greatness for our wait. Though this was far from a perfect issue, it was solid. That being said, my favorite part had to be the anger Hal had for Ganthet once he saw that he was running the BLCorps. And I absolutely love Fatality's one page spread. VERY NICE work done there, in fact, the entire book was pretty. The story didn't really capture me, but it did make me ask questions; which is both good and bad. Good because I'm sure they'll be answered...and bad because some of those questions shouldn't have been asked. Like Saint Walker telling Hal that he shall lead them with the aid of the GLC!
I know Hal won't accept, but the nerve of him and Ganthet(and Sayd too!) for having the thought of Hal leaving the GLC. Hal has NEVER struck me as an inspirational type, but maybe Geoff sees him as the hope of the DCU. If Hal did accept however, that would put an end to the Superman Blue Lantern bullshit. But now I think we'll see the elephant choose Superman(at a much later date) as the next Blue Lantern.
What else did I like? That's it. The twist at the end is intriguing but nothing I'm thrilled about. I'd rather the Reds beat the crap out of him until he he either died or someone saved him. I didn't like John sounding like a bitch when we got "cleansed" by Saint Walker. Speaking of John, how the hell did he get off Earth? Doesn't this issue fall somewhere between the first 2 issues of Final Crisis? I'll have to check that out later...Geoff must have forgot that his shit must now work around Grant's like every had to drop their shit for him. (Gotta mention Grant in every post, lol)
Final Rating: 4.5/5
Other Books This Week:
Batman #684- 3/5 Definitely not the best way to end Batman in 2008, but decent. Dick was way OOC.
Final Crisis: Secret Files- 3/5 Expected a lot more, but still solid. Art reminded me of Scott Kolins.
Superman #683- 3/5 New Krypton is losing its luster...FAST
Teen Titans #66- 4/5 Nice concept. Bad choices. Still not a strong title. I'll stay on for as long as I can though.
Batman:Cacophony #2- Didn't read it. Its sitting next to me right now, and I have zero will to read this. Did Kevin Smith fall off or am I missing something?
See you next week where we get the fourth issue of Vixen's mini, Paul Dini's return to Detective Comics in the two part crossover with Batman, and Black Lightning:Year One! Hopefully the interior art doesn't look as hideous as the cover.
I'm with you on Batman, good but not great. Lots to look forward to though.
Glad I passed on Cacophony.
