Here we are in week two of Pick of the Week and I have to be honest here. It was a weak week for me. In case you didn't read last weeks pick, I rate the books that weren't good enough to spend a paragraph on...With that being said, this weeks pick is Vixen: Return of the Lion #3. I know, its not Batman...shocker!

Let me get this out of the way right now...I have never been a fan of Vixen outside of the JLU cartoon. I grabbed this because I enjoyed the first two issues that were given to me. This miniseries is pretty good, and has WONDERFUL art by some guy named Cafu. He does a very light-toned style and it fits the African style of the book. The story isn't amazing, and the plot is still developing but writer G.Willow Wilson doing a great job with the title character. Vixen has become a character that I would like to read again.

So, in this issue Vixen awakens in a tomb like place with a Lion staring right at her. Meanwhile, the Justice League(Supes,Bats,Canary,B.Light, and Arsenal) come to help Vixen after she shunned them in the first issue. Black Lightning totally schools this villager and then zaps him for the hell of it and that really made me excited for the Black Lightning: Year One that's supposedly shipping in January. Anyway, Vixen does nothing in this issue but bitch about how she doesn't know when Mari starts and Vixen ends. Same old, same old, but its slightly better than usual because its a character I've never cared for, and its not an origin story. I'm so glad they didn't tell her origin because this story is so much better. The JL is looking for Intergang's plans for a base but instead find the base! And upon entry, they are attacked by poisoned spiked "devices" that take out Black Canary(right on her pretty lil cheek! lol) and even knocks out Superman, who if he wasn't there the rest of the team would be poised. And to end the issue(rather dully though), Vixen is to protect a little boys village from a ravaging lion...all without her Totem powers, which she feels she needs to do anything...

Final Rating: 4/5

Other books this week:

Batman #682- 3.9/5 (Comedy, but ZERO action. Solid issue)

Justice Society of America #21- 3/5 (Barely above boring. Not to mention the ignorance of "The Kingdome" by Mark Waid. Johns and Ross change Flash history before Rebirth...yay or nay? NAY)

Jonah Hex #38- 3/5 (Not good. Closer to a 2 than a 4. Jonah is on the decline, but the next issue should be solid tho.)

Secret Invasion Front Line #5- 3/5 (Another 3 out of 5 book. This revealed the ending to SI, and boy was it lackluster...though I blame SI #8 for taking it away)

See you next week where we have pretty good week including Denny O'Neil's first of two issues on Detective Comics starts(#851), Nightwing, JLA, Action Comics...and that book thats been delayed more than any other, FINAL CRISIS(#5).
