It's too bad though that you had to deal with that security guard. It really sucks. We're there to have fun and enjoy and it just takes the whole life out of it when you have to deal with an overzealous ass who just ruins the moment.
I never shared on this board openly but I mentioned I had a little issue with a Hasbro employee that just killed my Sunday afternoon for a few hours. Thank God it was Sunday and I was done, but it had me seething! Long story short, I had bought a couple of the Star Wars Secret Chamber SDCC exclusives and they're huge and when I got to the car realized there was no room for them accounting for the passangers all the other items. So knowing there are no returns, I figured I'd just sell it to someone in line at cost. I wasn't scalping it, trying to profit off out, this was a move out of necessity so in my mind not a bad or negative or big deal. In retrospect I realized that was a bit naive to do that even with the noblest intention. Anyways, I'm quickly able to find someone who is happy to do me the favor and buy it from me. Well this older Hasbro lady employee comes up and literally yanks my lanyard and pulls my badge out of the holder, hands it to a security guy and tells him to escort me out of the con! I'm like for what? She's like you're selling in my booth! I start to explain the situation and she wants no part and tells the security guy to take me. The security guy ask me to walk with him and I explain to him what's up and he is totally cool and says no worries and apologizes to me and says as soon as we get out of her/the booth's view I'm going to hand you back the badge and you're all set. He says just do me a favor and avoid the Hasbro booth. I thank him and when we get clear of the booth he does as he says and I'm totally good. No real loss, minus me being pissed off. After I calm down I do realize it was a little short minded and even a bit stupid to sell in the booth, I get it, but that lady has no business or right to come at me like that. She could have just come up and told me you can't sell here or simiar vs just just jumping all over me. There were no signs that you could not sell, though I agree common sense counts but hey even the best of us lose the big picture for a moment. So I was considering going back and letting her have it but I didn't want to get the cool security guy in trouble since he was suppose to escort me out. Then I thought of filing a formal complaint with Hasbro ... and I'm still considering it ... but then I think I'm too old for this and I should forgive and forget. Maybe next year if she's there I can just kindly and productively mention what occured and how I felt. I want to believe if she knew exactly why and what I was doing she would have been much nicer and understanding. I'm sure she had been dealing with all these scalpers all weekend and presumed me to be one and was just so tired of it all. Hmmm...one day I think I should call/email Hasbro to complain, the next I'm like just let it go and give her the benefit of the doubt. No real damage was done ... a little frustration, embarassment ... but nothing too bad right?
Plus, I guess if you've gone to SDCC enough, you're going to have your great stories ... I met Jonah Hill ... and your not great stories like this one and what happened to Sylent coming down that escalator or the story about the security guard who harassed you to no end about your lost badge.
Chalk it up as the life of going to SDCC huh?
Peace Sylent. Great Blog! Great Pics! Still hoping to get to San Jose but not looking good.
About the gun, I'm starting to think it's more trouble than it's worth. I didn't mention the incident at the airport because it was unrelated to the SDCC. Well, they apparently changed the check-in procedure for firearms, which I was not privy to. I fly maybe 3-5 times a year and only bring the pistol for the SDCC which is once a year. Anyway, the girl at the counter was incredibly rude and condescending. She was very attractive, but wearing FAR too much make-up; she kind of looked like a pissed off porn star that didn't swallow enough. At any rate, she copped an attitude when I tried checking in the gun because the form now goes on the outside instead of the inside with the firearm. Maybe I was supposed to know this through osmosis or telepathy. I was in a really good mood this day and smiled during the entire incident which seemed to infuriate her further. Kill them with kindness. I was glad my luggage showed up in San Diego after this.
Thanks for the compliment on the blog! I tried to keep it as family-friendly as I could by not including too many expletives. I posted it on FB and have family and kids that read my posts. Don't want to look like a foul-mouthed trucker.
