Okay kids. I would like to talk about the whole "Pie Face" Racist thing. Here are my feelings. I think If I were writting GL, Hal would still call Tom Pie. The reason is because,One of the things I love about Hal is he is old skool. In a world that I feel is getting overly sensitive,Hal is refuses to change. It also holds a sense of realisim. Lets be honest how many of us don't get ragged by our friends about our heritage. I know I do. Being a Native American who likes to drink on the weekends I get Fire water jokes all the time. Truth fully it does not bother me because it is in good sport. I like to think That Hal and Tom had that kind of realtionship. What do you guys think.

I had a black friend that hung out with all us white boys. We called him the N word at least 5 times aday. He didn't care at all, surprisingly, he laughed along wand insulted us too. The dude was 100% black too. Black as night.
Anyway, I still don't think they've changed it yet. I made a post about it in the GL #30 discussion thread. I think that they are suggesting that's where Hal got it from and from then on he calls Tom "Pieface" as a nickname. Not a racial slur.

Oh yeah. I give as good as I get. I have a Irish Friend who has been arested for fighting a few times,we rag him. I have a Asian Friend who has totaled 5 cars. We tease each other but we all laugh because we are just screwing around. I would never suggest someone go up to a stranger and malutiously racially insult them. I just think that it would be nice to see a few examples of how real people act. Maybe I am wrong. Maybe I just hang with loose people, but I just want to field some opinions. Me I sometimes feel political corectness is getting out of controll. I don't want to see any one get thier feelings hurt, but I would like to see people of diffrent personalities, acting in diffrent ways.Take life with a Grain of salt and a shot of tequila!

Lets be honest, its just some suit thats saying they can't do it, got to be PC, I think no matter what Hal would call Tom "pie face" just for the friend factor, I work with all kind of people and we tease each other, its not a hate thing, but when you have people who are watching the bottom line, they walk the line alot tighter, got to make it happy and shiny, don't offend anyone.
Silly bastards.

I have a question. Is Tom still connected to the New Guardians. I know they died in that arc in Vol. 3 Where Krona/Entropy absorbed them or what ever. But I thought Tom and the Floronic man and others still had the abilitys given them at least it was never stated outright that they had been taken away.

However, I think we forget a couple of things. If it wasn't your friend calling you racist names, I bet you'd knock the person out. The ONLY time I get violent anymore is when I see racial intolerance. Nothing else bothers me much and I've been lucky to be in a diverse area where I have friends from every walk of life.
The other thing we forget sometimes is we hardcore, longtime comic readers probably wouldn't be bothered by Hal calling Tom "Pieface" because they are longtime friends. Kids do read comics. Not in the numbers they used to, but they are out there. Just ask the Georgia comic shop that has been fighting a lawsuit for four years because of a comic with one panel of nudity.
With an all ages audience in mind, some folks out there aren't going to understand that relationship. Instead, someone may consider that everyone at DC comics is okay with racism.
That isn't political correctness, that is the reality of our society. People love to take each other to court over the smallest crap.
I'm not going to lose sleep over it either way. Lots of those Silver Age "Pie" comics around to reread if need be.

As I understand it now, even the term Eskimo is considered a not-so-kind reference. Thus, Eskimo Pie, the old ice cream treat or worse, as some interpret it as a narrow eyes slam, can be viewed as a racial slam.

And that has to be the most retarded racial slur I've ever heard in my entire life. Did 6 year olds make this up? Seriously. As far as hate and bigotry go, I think we could do better than "Pie".
All of this pie talk is making me hungry.

There are much, much worse names out there, that's for sure. Hell, I didn't even know the term "Eskimo" was unkind until recently. Although, I suppose if someone else from a different place gave me my name or the name of my culture, I could see how that might become a sore spot.
