  • Is anyone else worried about The Green Hornet film stealing a little of Green Lantern

Is anyone else worried about The Green Hornet film stealing a little of Green Lantern’s thunder? What if it’s a major flop? What kind of negative effect could it have on the GL film? None comic book fans may associate the two. And why am I up 4 am posting? WTF!

    Hm. Good question, actually.

Personally, I think it's good that a Green Hornet film and a Green Lantern film are getting made (apparently) so close to one another. Once and for all, this might bury the eternal confusion between the two of them.

I don't think that Hornet's failure would hurt a GL movie, particularly at the point in production the GL movie is.... but it certainly wouldn't help it. I'd like to believe that any of the beancounters in charge would recognize, in any case, that the success or failure of the Green Hornet movie wouldn't/shouldn't have anything to do with the GL film... they're completely different genres.

Not even in the slightest. "Green Hornet" is going to bomb as big as "The Spirit". Most people under the age of 30 have no idea who the character is and just don't care. And Seth Rogen as a "heroic action lead"? Give me a break!

Yeah, barring some pretty mind-blowing trailers with savvy marketing or something, Green Hornet is definitely going to bomb. I don't know anyone, on the internet or otherwise, the least bit excited about the movie. I know plenty of people kind of morbidly fascinated with the project, though... kind of like the people that like to stop and watch the aftermath of car accidents, etc..

In San Diego ComiCon they had the Green Hornetmobile or whatever parked there inside... everyone walking by it was just like, "Oh. Meh."

I'm not überexited, but I'm looking forward to it. I like Stephen Chow's movies, I like Seth Rogen's movies, I like the concept of Green Hornet. And while none of that means that the movie will automatically be some sort of masterpiece, it could be fun.

What is the point of Green Hornet? Is he just a glorified cop? Wearing a mask? I guess, because of the lack of attention he has gotten, a comedy is the only route to go. At least they chose GH to be the comedy and NOT (thankfully) GL!

I absolutely don’t understand how some movies like these get to be made and movies that almost guarantee a successful franchise stay in development hell. I don’t get the appeal of The Green Hornet and don’t know why anyone in Hollywood would ever fork out the money for it. The character was popular in the radio days and had a short lived TV show that barely made the reruns. I’m not a fan and I don’t know of at least two people in the hardcore comic book community that are even remotely interest in the character.

I also would like to say that I don’t wish failure on this movie; I do hope this movie is successful and blows everyone’s socks off because someone out there is just as passionate about this character like I am about GL.

Stephen Chow has nothing to do with this movie.

Whoa, when did that change? Wasn't he supposed to direct and play Kato?

<edit: I just checked imdb. The new director is Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Be Kind, Rewind). That's even better.>

I'm actually looking quite forward to this.
I don't expect it to be good... i expect it to surprise me.
It's kinda like the underdog of the upcoming comic book movies.

i first heard about this film the other week and i don't really see it harming Green Lantern too much since while they both have the word Green in them, they are 2 completely seperate stories and probably told in different ways.
Like previous posters, i'm really not expecting thisfilm to be a massive box office smash. I'm only vaguely familiar with the franchise myself and thats mostly because it had a tv series with Bruce Lee in it and thats probably what most people's recollection is going to be.
Plus also GL has a much bigger storyline background behind it than GH which is mostly running on that hollywood trend of nostalgia.
