Default Christmas 2019

Had to duck out at least three times now because of: racism, politics, a combination of the two, and general boring "adult" bullshit, but otherwise this year's holidays are going swell.

I only asked "Santa" for three things, two books and a new shower head. I really do need the last one, it's a must-have.

Well, this is my total Christmas haul (not the nativity):

The bag contains three pair of pants. The pen is also a laser pointer (I use it as a toy for the cat and to lure her to get medicine). The white box is one of those ancestry kits. The Pez on the left are Stranger Things.

Be careful with those ancestry kits: my uncle had his DNA tested and it said he had no Scottish blood.

Those fuckers at the lab fucking ripped my uncle off, because we know for a goddamn fact that my family comes from Scotland/Ireland, it wasn't more than a century ago my grandfather and his parents came over on the fucking boat.

Also, I see that Friday the 13th book. I'm jelly as hell.

So my haul and shenanigans:

* Lords and Tyrants (Warhammer 40k anthology)

* Requiem Infernal (Peter Fehervari, 40k horror)

* New shower head (my most desired request)

* New Sloppy Joe's shirt from older sister and husband

* Money from parents (mom/stepdad/dad)

* New pajamas (family tradition, parents give to kids on Eve)

* Warm winter cap (super mega ultra thermal edition)

* Whitman's sampler chocolate set (I feel like my mother receiving these)

* Phone charging "Halo" device (going to take getting used to because I always just hook my phone up to an outlet)

* Framed photograph of the Gates of Hell (big-ass sculpture in Paris)

* One half of Madonna's pointy bra (but seriously, it's this goofy cone-shaped ice scraper)

I actually never asked for this and fear that very thing, but my one aunt thinks it's the neatest thing and I probably have to do it because she'll ask. I would be crushed if it turned out my Celtic blood was miniscule. My stepdad and I were joking that we'd like to compare his results to his sister's just to see how legit it is.

I got the new turntable hooked up to my stereo system with my stepdad's help but it took way longer than I expected because there's so many hookups on that thing and the one's I thought I could re-assign I couldn't. At least I can go to bed knowing for the first time in my life I can listen to my own records in 5.1 surround at home.

BTW: the Cats book is not based on the new movie per se, but the original TS Eliot poems.

That is just a journal (I've mostly daily journaled since I was about ten), but it is very cool looking. I want to keep that little wrap-around thing too.

Yeah, she's out of her box already and next to the other 9" Trek figs. She looks really cool and has a nice little charging station, which I have to figure out how to prop behind her head now.

I've both been gifted those and bought my own in the past and they make such a difference when you've been putting up with a crappy shower.

Cool. That's a conversation starter.

Yeah, be careful when doing that. I know you said you'd be upset, but as long as you have some measure of hard proof of where your family comes from, those tests won't impact you at all.

Shit. Then again, I can probably find it cheap and pretend to write hilariously stupid fake-murder shit in there.

Yeah but I need a better spot to put it, because right now it's on top of my bookshelf next to my door, which isn't a good location. And it certainly won't start the kinds of conversations that an autographed clown picture will when a priest makes a home call, am I right?

Since my mother and stepdad decided to return theirs I am too. I wasn't interested anyway. Hopefully my aunt can return them or regift them. It'd be a better use.

Well, my guess was incorrect....I thought it might be a new updated edition of Crystal Lake Memories. But just as awesome! I used to do quite a lot of journaling, but quit about 10 years ago. I've tried to pick it up again here and there, but it doesn't stick. Journaling is a big past time on mom's side of the fam.

I don't know why I bother. My journal would bore anyone to tears. It's mostly like "I did these chores, finished reading this book, and watched this movie." It's rare that I include any deep thoughts. It has occasionally helped me when I try to remember when something was done or that I actually did do something (if I have a rough date in mind).

One hiccup to my gifts: dress for my mom was too small (I accidentally grabbed it from the Juniors section). Oh well, at least I have good taste for aesthetics, right?

Also, my dad told me my mom gave my younger sister's step-daughter $50. Both he and I agree that is a little much, $20 would have been fine (we're not stingy, admittedly it is the giving season, but she's only 12 so fifty is a fairly big gift in our eyes).

Mom also got me new slippers today, since my old ones are wearing down.

Cool. I'm very familiar with Chuck Berry's song, but not Richards' cover.
