Sure but it's a bit harder to do when it's a direct follow up to something that was teased as a major part of his Justice League run, though at this point I suppose they can hand wave it all away with Dr. Manhattan.

Huh, the solicit for #1 actually has it as both:

Quote:
FAR SECTOR #1
written by N.K. JEMISIN
art and cover by JAMAL CAMPBELL
variant cover by SHAWN MARTINBROUGH
variant cover by JAMIE McKELVIE

N.K. Jemisin, the acclaimed, award-winning author of The Broken Earth and Inheritance science fiction trilogies, makes her comic book debut with bestselling Naomi artist Jamal Campbell as they thrust you into a stunning sci-fi murder mystery on the other side of the universe!

For the past six months, newly chosen Green Lantern Sojourner “Jo” Mullein has been protecting the City Enduring, a massive metropolis of 20 billion people. The city has maintained peace for over 500 years by stripping its citizens of their ability to feel. As a result, violent crime is virtually unheard of, and murder is nonexistent.

But that’s all about to change in this new maxiseries that gives a DC Young Animal spin to the legacy of the Green Lanterns!

Alright I forgot that when DC announced Veritgo would be shutting down they changed what Black Label was:
  • DC Kids will focus on readers ages 8-12 and offer content created specifically for the middle-grade reader
  • DC, focusing on ages 13+, will primarily be the current DC universe of characters
  • DC Black Label will focus on content appropriate for readers 17 and older
The popup imprint branding, in this case Young Animal, is underneath these umbrellas, ex. look at the Joe Hill stuff that was announced a little while ago:

So in terms of whether this is in continuity or not I'm still leaning towards no since Black Label is their mature readers line separate from the normal DC branding.

We only have one benchmark, and that is the Black Label books that came out already. In Batman Damned #1, Azzarello and Bermejo got green light to show Batman's peen, but as soon as the issue got shipped to the stores, Didio or Lee or both got cold feet, made up a lie about m9nitor brightness and immediately nerfed the digital issue, censoring all future reprints around the world.

Then they re-released Batman White Knight by Sean Murphy. Murphy had included a post-coital scene between Harley and Joker, in which you could see her topless. For the non-Black-Label single issue release, the cowards placed the speech bubbles over her mammaries, leading to an awkward amount of negative space in the panels, above Joker's and Harley's heads. They announced that they would fix the panels for the Black Label paperback and restore Murphy's vision - and then didn't.

Doomsday C(l)ock isn't a Black Label book, but that one showed Dr. Manhattan's wang. Which is literally more cojones than any Black Label book was allowed to have.

It is possible that Far Sector will show her nipples. But I would bet money against it.

There's been peace for 500 years, but that's all about to change. And this woman's very own Green Lantern is going to handle it.

She's been reading too much Geoff Johns. Not only do we not need any more GLs or Corps, and not only do we not need for some huge thing that's been going along fine for an amazingly long time to suddenly go all to hell, putting no less than TWENTY BILLION lives at stake, but we also don't need a female Geoff.

I've ordered this already, and I'm intrigued by the story's premise. While I'm excited about a celebrated mainstream writer like Jemisin bringing a different angle to GL, she shouldn't say things like this in interviews:

"I wasn’t familiar with Green Lantern, beyond watching episodes of the animated Justice League series. I was familiar with John Stewart, so for a long time, I didn’t realise Hal Jordan was supposed to be, like, “the main” Green Lantern. But... for the longest time, I was like, “Why is he white?” [laughing]"

http://https://www.kotaku.com.au/2019/09/n-k-jemisin-discusses-the-tough-questions-far-sectors-new-green-lantern-asks-about-policing/

Translation: I knew absolutely nothing about DC Comics, including John being the first African-American headliner for DC, I didn't do a web search, and I didn't really pay attention when I was watching Justice League.

She's an award-winning writer with a master's degree. I'm sure that she can do better than echoing the cringeworthy sentiments of the JL fanboys in 2011.

She's drawn like a 20-something, so there's no way that I'd develop a crush. Besides that, Jade is forever my girl.

This could have been a much better plot with an alien GL, not a human one. Pick any of the species we've seen in the GLC, even as recently as the resurgence after GL #20. Like the GL from the "Lantern Batteries go to a planet instead of a pocket dimension" story with the alien that could teleport across galaxies. Or put the story into the Animated Series with a ship with the ultradrive to get to "the far sectors".

Didio was asked about whether Black Label books were considered to be in continuity at a panel today and he said no, that they want the mature readers line to be separate from the normal continuity.
