A "WITCH-WAR" BREAKS OUT IN "CHILLING ADVENTURES OF SABRINA'S" NEW STORYLINE

War is coming to "Chilling Adventures of Sabrina."

Archie Comics' dark reboot of "Sabrina the Teenage Witch" kicks off its second arc in September's issue #7 with "Witch-War," a six part storyline by writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and artist Robert Hack

In "Witch War," Sabrina's late father, Edward Spellman, returns in the body of Sabrina's dead boyfriend, Harvey Kinkle. While Sabrina believes her old flame has returned, her aunts Hilda and Zelda sense trouble -- and they'll do everything that they can to keep Sabrina and Harvey apart. Meanwhile, Edward's ex-girlfriend, Madam Satan, reveals her dastardly plans for the Spellman family.

"Chilling Adventures of Sabrina" is the second title in the Archie Horror line, which reimagines Archie Comics' signature teen comedies as dark supernatural thrillers. "Chilling Adventures of Sabrina" debuted in 2014 before going on a year-long hiatus in June 2015 while Aguirre-Sacasa developed the drama "Riverdale" for The CW. The book returned to print with issue #5 on June 1.

"Sabrina the Teenage Witch" is Archie Comics' second-longest running franchise, and was created by George Gladir and Dan DeCarlo. In addition to a number of comic books, Sabrina previously appeared in a long-running live-action sitcom and three separate animated series.

"Chilling Adventures of Sabrina" #7 goes on sale September 21, 2016 and features covers by Hack and Moritat.

(1) I liked the style of Archie 11 (Waid), with the fast title changes within the comic.

(2) Next issue is the conclusion. Is that an arc wrap or is it going on hiatus?

(3) New Afterlife with Archie this Wednesday.

Archie Expanding Rebooted Universe with Four New One-Shots

Archie Comics has announced (via Entertainment Weekly) the release of four one-shots coming out in March 2017, set in the rebooted universe that was first established in Mark Waid and Fiona Staples’ run on “Archie.”

The four new titles include: “Jughead: The Hunger” (written by Frank Tieri and illustrated by Michael Walsh), “The Archies” (written by Alex Segura and Matthew Rosenberg, with art by Joe Eisma), “Little Archie” (written and illustrated by Art Baltazar, co-written by Franco) and “Sabrina the Teenage Witch” (written by Katie Cook and Franco, with art by Andy Price).

“These new launches give readers a wider lens with which to see the Archie characters and concepts,” Archie Comics CEO Jon Goldwater said in an official statement. “I think of it as a very ambitious and top-line pilot season that showcases the successful and acclaimed New Riverdale sensibility. If these books resonate, fans might just see them greenlit as regular series.”

EXCLUSIVE: PETE WOODS JOINS ARCHIE AS NEW SERIES ARTIST

CBR has the exclusive announcement that Pete Woods (“Action Comics”) will join the “Archie” ongoing as the new series artist, beginning with issue 18. Woods will replace Joe Eisma (“Morning Glories”), who has worked on “Archie” since issue 14.

“When the fine folks at Archie came to me with an opportunity to not just draw America’s most famous teenagers, but to work with Mark as well I jumped at the chance,” Woods told CBR. “I’ve always wanted to work with Mark and he’s on his A-Game here. The moment I read his first issue of Archie it became my favorite comic on the stands. Just great comics and I’m thrilled to be a part of it!”

Waid said, teasing his and Woods’ first arc together, “Veronica’s back in town–but she’s not quite the “Ronnie” that Riverdale remembers. She and Archie are in a…complicated situation, and that means that potential suitors are falling all over themselves to woo her. Meanwhile, Betty’s found herself a new beau, and I’d argue it’s one of the least expected boys in town. And as if that weren’t enough, Cheryl Blossom and her brother are trying to get to the bottom of a mystery that surrounds their family and cloaks it in shadow. We have a LOT of stuff coming up!”
