Wait, so the movies aren't a word-for-word adaptation? I'm shocked.

Fucking Dumbledore letting Harry go all jock instead of nerding out.

Not to mention that I know MY handwriting now is different than it was when I was in High School. Maybe not different enough to throw off a handwriting expert, but certainly different enough to not be obviously the same person.

I wouldn't see that if it was local. The bits with Harry at his uncle and aunt's house were my least favorite of each book; had to force myself through them. I kept hoping he'd move in with Dumbledore or Hagrid. I've had all of that family I can stomach.

I'm going to echo Space Cop's sentiments. The Dursleys, while they did exactly what they were created to do (serve as an ugly antagonist foil to the wonders of the Wizarding World), were so tremendously assholish that I couldn't fathom paying any extended attention to this story.

I think it'd be interesting to see them from a different angle.
People do all sorts of irrational things when they're living in a constant state fear, which the Dursleys were.

Well, it'll work for you, then, which is fine. My response:
(1) They didn't only act out of fear. That would explain them hiding Harry's true nature and misdirecting the school invites, but they also treated him like crap and preferred their own son at every turn (basically a Cinderella set-up).
(2) Just because they have motivation, wouldn't make it interesting to me. I find it easier to read/watch about Voldemort (at least he's an outright villain) than the Dursleys.

How about the fact that this means a new Harry will be cast?

JK Rowling says Hermione should have married Harry Potter, not Ron

Yeah, her and Ron ending up together made sense and was a bit attractive in a way, but that way paled in comparison to her and Harry being together. Honestly, Ginny felt tacked on as a relationship to Harry, no matter her quality as a character.

I never thought Harry and Hermione would've ended up together, but yeah it would've been better.

P.S. movie Ron sucks

I like the Ron-Hermione match.
I think Hermione would drive Harry nuts. They'd get a divorce. Ron and Hermione, on the other hand, would argue, shout, and throw things but end up going to bed in peace.

Anyway, I liked when Harry was dating Cho. I think the most fun would've been Harry-Luna, but the Celtic side of me is happy Harry ended up with a red head.
