I thought the HFR was pretty good. It did kind of look like a BBC Show at times, but all-in-all, I thought it was fine.

Unintentional humor/irony for GL fans in this film. The main villain, Lord Blackwood, gives a decree about using fear as a weapon to create an empire.

The actor who played Lord Blackwood? Mark Strong.

Batman Returns - I forgot how cheesy some of the stuff in this movie was, hadn't seen it in ages. Still, I wish Burton and Keaton had done one more together before we got Forever, I love the atmosphere in the first two.

Diary of the Dead:



While somewhat cheesy at times, not a bad movie. Would fit in the same world as The Walking Dead pretty easily (exact same zombies/everyone comes back once dead etc.). Also the only zombie movie that actually had a decent element of "realism" when it came to one of the characters finding their brother/parents had been turned. Actually made me feel bad for a character for a change.

Only major gripes were the whole "1st person filming perspective" and the inevitable "but the camera down you asshole" moments. Especially when the camera man is watching one of his friends being chased by the zombie and dong nothing aside yelling "cut" to get its' attention.

If you like Zombie movies, definitely check it out.

Pretty bad Corman-produced post-apocalyptic "gladiator" flick. The best things about it (by far) are David Carradine's awesomeness and the fact that the rather beautiful Claudia Jennings disrobes several times.

I was expecting actual rock monsters (what the title implies), but a faceless force of nature from beyond the atmosphere that grows over everything in its path is just as good (and with great effects, too).

The Keep (1983)


Pretty decent 80s horror fantasy. Nazis vs. a trapped demon-type guy. Includes Ian Mckellen as a professor and Scott Glenn as an angel-type proctector.

Truly one of the best films of all time. I showed this to my church film club and gave a somewhat lengthy talk about it, which seemed to give some of (especially they younger ones) people a new appreciation for it.

Monster on the Campus (1958)

A college professor is accidentally infected with radioactive prehistoric fish blood and turns into a murderous caveman. And there's a giant dragonfly.

The movie was boring. Not to say it wasn't good, however; the cast was superior and music was very well done, but the plot just dragged on and on and on... I count at least three instances where I thought the movie should have ended, but didn't. If it wasn't for me and another friend doing a Rifftrax-like commentary on the movie I would've considered it a wasted day.

The Head (1959)

German film about a creepy doctor (Horst Frank), Ood, who is brought in to help an older doctor and his assistant with an experimental surgery. But Ood wants to use the procedure as a springboard for more risky operations, particularly on a hunchbacked nun he becomes obsessed with.

The dubbing is fairly good, but there are no subtitles (all the signs are in English anyway).

Great stuff. Faye Dunaway is amazing. It's also interesting to see the life of a star of the studio system. Howard Da Silva is great as LB Mayer (whose such a d**k in this).
