Marvel Comic-Con Teaser: 'This Is WAR!'

Quote:
Marvel started their first round of pre-Comic-Con hype Monday morning with a teaser stating "This is War," and depicting some clear damage to Thor's trusty hammer Mjolnir. The project looks to be starting in October, which is Marvel's first post-Avengers vs. X-Men month.

Who is the God of Thunder going to war with? Feel free to examine this teaser to see what you might be able to figure out before the answers arrive on Sunday, July 15 at Comic-Con International in San Diego, during Marvel's Amazing Spider-Man panel at 12:30 p.m. Pacific time.

Update via CBR

Quote:
With the 2012 Comic-Con International in San Diego just around the proverbial corner, Marvel Comics has announced its intention to declare war during the four-and-a-half day convention. Or, more accurately, it will be announcing an Avengers-centric storyline or event during its Amazing Spider-Man panel on July 15 at 12:30 PM PST, according to information accompanying the following teaser image.

UPDATE: A second image featuring a shot of Wolverine's limp hand, burning while the Avenger/X-Man's claws are extended, has also been released on Marvel.com.

For the love of god, for once can we finish an event before we start teasing the next one?

That Wolverine teaser kinda looks like something Simone Bianchi would do. I'm thinking this is a story arc and not another summer event.

Possibly. The first thing that came to mind was Ultron War since that's suppose to be Bendis' swan song on the Avengers books, but the fact that this will apparently be revealed at an Amazing Spider-Man panel is kinda odd.

Sup.

Do you mean Fear Itself?

IIRC, Thor was dead or rather erased from existence from The Mighty Thor comic book series from about issues 8 to 12.1, which was about 4 months.

Stuart Immonen Working On A New Bi-Weekly Comic For Marvel?
Quote:
Spinning out of Heroes Con in Charlotte, comes the rumour that Marvel will be launching a new bi-weekly comic book, with Stuart Immonen, at least in part, on art. I hope we can presume some Kathryn Immonen input as well. And since it’s bi-weekly, could we also presume Steve Wacker will be involved because he seems to specialise in that kind of thing? It should be shorter than 52 and the like though…

It seems that a number of Marvel characters will be getting new designs and costumes in whatever the hell Marvel are planning to do in October, November and December. Anyway, that will be a thing.

And, as part of the Grand Marvel Switcheroo, after news that Ed Brubaker will be leaving Captain America with issue 19, yes, we appear to have Rick Remender and John Romita Jr on the comic…

Guardians of the Galaxy Movie Heating Up?
Marvel files 11 new trademarks for the superhero team.

Rumor has it that Marvel is currently developing a Guardians of the Galaxy feature film. Additionally, there have been whispers that a new comic from Brian Bendis is also underway.

In either case, Bleeding Cool reports that the company has filed 11 new trademarks for the superhero team, including beverages, furniture, jewelry, video games, food and entertainment services.

No official statement from Marvel has been issued at this point.

We’ve been expecting news of The Ultron War for a while now, following Avengers Vs X-Men, and using the dredges of Bryan Hitch’s contract with Marvel to finish the pages. And when Marvel started posting images tagged with #thisiswar, for many people, including this site, this was a natural progression.

But Comics Alliance’s David Uzumeri makes a very good point on Twitter. Explaining why it’s in the Sunday Spider-Man panel. I presumed it was the last big Marvel panel of the weekend. But what if, as he suggests, it’s The Reckoning War?

For the last seven years or so, in almost every Marvel comic book he can, Dan Slott has been dropping references to something in the future of the Marvel Universe called The Reckoning War, that seems to involve The Watcher, the Fantastic Four, Gauntlet, Iron Man, Southpaw and many more.

In She Hulk, we discovered, from the Time Variance Authority, that an action by She Hulk would lead to The Reckoning War. And that this was a bad thing. It would devastate not only the Earth but the whole cosmos. Marvel people have told me that Slott has tried to get this plot to finally occur for some time.

After a successful run on Amazing Spider-Man that has, for many people, turned the tanker around… could this be that moment, at long long last? His reward? His final reckoning?

Let’s find out at San Diego Comic Con…

Say, could it involve the Alpha Universe from She-Hulk, as teased by a previous Marvel post, announcing Alpha as a new Amazing Spider-Man character?

We see a ton of variant covers these days. Usually they simply feature art from another artist. There are times we see themes such as the "Avengers Art Appreciation" covers. Today, Marvel has announced a line of variants with a greater purpose. Whether you love variants or hate them, these variants are definitely worth checking out.

This October, they are hoping to raise awareness of the risk of breast cancer to both men and women.
Quote:
Marvel Entertainment goes pink this October, launching a month-long campaign in support of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month with all new covers on select October titles and educational material on Marvel.com. Throughout the month of October, the world’s most popular super heroes—Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Black Widow, Wolverine and more—will be featured on all-new variant covers with special pink-colored costumes available exclusively at comic shops*. Additionally, all Marvel super hero comics in October will feature a special one-page advertorial educating readers about breast cancer, complimented by additional content on Marvel.com and through social media.

'Marvel is proud to partner with Susan G. Komen For the Cure to support their unparalleled efforts to raise awareness about the risk of breast cancer to both women and men,' said Dan Buckley, Publisher & President of the Print, Animation & Digital Divisions, Marvel Worldwide, Inc. 'We’re in a unique position to educate all our fans and increase awareness of the ways to fight—and reduce-- this risk of this disease by utilizing our comics and online presence.'

The following comic books, on-sale in October, will feature special Susan G. Komen variant covers:

· Avengers #31
· Captain America #18
· Captain Marvel #5
· Fantastic Four #611
· Invincible Iron Man #526

Stellan Skarsgard Confirms Return for Thor 2
Quote:
It seems like every other week we're reporting on who will or won't be back for a Marvel sequel. Now it looks like actor Stellan Skarsgard will be returning as Dr. Erik Selvig for Thor 2. He confirmed this in an interview with Hey U Guys.

When asked what he had coming up and whether it involved Thor 2, Skarsgard offered this: "I will try to combine Thor 2 which starts in August and goes to the end of December with the new Lars Von Trier film."

Thor 2 reunites Chris Hemsworth with Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Anthony Hopkins as Odin, and Natalie Portman as the love interest Jane Foster. Alan Taylor ("Game of Thrones") is stepping behind the camera for its November 15, 2013 release date.

Spider-Man Gears Up For War In Latest Marvel Teaser
Quote:
Earlier this week, Marvel Comics began a new teaser image campaign to ramp up for Comic-Con International in San Diego 2012. Thus far, images depicting artifacts from the Marvel Universe -- including Thor's shattered hammer and Wolverine's burning claws and Captain America's bloodied shield and Iron Man's dented, bloody faceplate -- were revealed with the words "This Is War" superimposed below the image.

Today, Spider-Man sees some action, which is appropriate as it's during his Comic-Con International panel where the full details on this event will be revealed. As with prior releases, the information accompanying the image divulged no new details, though they all promise more news to be announced during the Amazing Spider-Man Panel on July 15 at CCI 2012.
