Willem Dafoe: ‘I’m seduced by strong directors … I like the crazy ones’
Quote:
As much as you enjoy working on personal films by strong directors, you’re also making Justice League, which is presumably the opposite of that.

Well, Justice League is very particular because it’s an ensemble movie and my character is being introduced here in order to be a principal role in Aquaman. These films are a different experience. They have different responsibilities, different resources and different intentions. It’s nice to go between those worlds if you can. They serve different impulses.
Quote:
You were present at the very start of the superhero renaissance, with Spider-Man. That had a strong director.

And that was interesting because, as big as that film was, Sam Raimi didn’t have a formula. And I think with Justice League I think they’re trying to play around with the formula. Zac Snyder certainly has a heavy stamp on it. But Spider-Man was a very personal film to Sam. He really believed in the story. It was dear to him. It was fun to see a big studio film like that be so personal. I mean, nothing’s perfect, but it’s a good film.

In the first Raimi Spiderman flick, they tell Osborn his serum isn't living up to expectations. That he 'needs to go back to formula...' then IIRC when he kills the same board member GG says it again... 'BACK TO FORMULA!'

^Oh crap, I remember now that you describe it. I haven't watched the movie in like 10 years even though it's the only Spiderman movie I own.

It's been at least a decade since I watched it as well, Dafoe's performance was just so top notch I couldn't forget it LOL

The sequel with Doc Ock is in my son's bedtime movie rotation.

I remember feeling really bad for him when the board seizes his own company. But I suppose when I think of top Dafoe performances the ones that come to mind are Platoon and Boondock Saints. Which is not to say he wasn't fine in Spiderman. Lots of other great ones, but when I picture Dafoe I see him as Elias falling on the battlefield or Smecker in drag. ... Make of that what you will.

You ain't lying! Dafoe was probably the most entertaining part about that movie aside from Rocco. Dafoe's reactions to any gay person in his proximity was fuckin' priceless!

All the characters in that movie are interesting. It's well-crafted in that sense.

They need to get BS3 done and finish the story. A lot of people didn't like part 2 but I enjoyed it quite a bit.

Indeed, the movie did have some less-than-stellar parts, but overall the second one was good. I enjoyed it, at any rate...

Why'd they feel the need to change Mr. Terrific's color scheme to include gold/yellow?

I also dig the more bug like Parasite and his new stomach tendrils. Makes him a little more versatile and somewhat like Venom to a degree.
