How about this Alan Scott has an internet radio show about ufo conspiracies and government stuff the shows kinda big like Art Bell . Then one night he gets a call about some stuff being moved from Area 51 by train .
He does some digging and tracks down the train now the thing about this stuff on board is that its low level stuff or so they think. He's able to get on the train because there aren't any guards on the train just a few cameras . Alan's looking around for any ufo stuff when the train crashes .
Alan's hurt and bloody he tries to stand and falls on a wooden box in side is a green box with a handle on it he grabs it with a bloody hand to steady himself when it glows a bright green he hears a strange language at first it slowly becomes english the last thing he hears before he passed out was "DNA found lock engaged battery reboot ring size conversion engaged".
Thats how I would start it .

I say he should be ranting on the radio about how Barack Obama is a socialist.

I still dont understand why everyone wants Alan to be used for a possible Earth One Lantern book.

With Hal being so prominent in the movie and tv show coming up in the near future, I dont see why they'd even try to use anyone but Hal for this.

They wouldn't, but the initial post was about Alan so that's where the topic went. Earth-One isn't Earth-1.

I love the idea about Alan being in a depressive state...he could work for a modern railway company but is miserable and while he's deadheading somewhere, he sees what appears to be a "shooting star" in the sky and wishes his life woudl just come to an end when as teh train moves, the "star" approaches and something starts to interfere with the train and it derails at high speed, causing a big accident with many casualties.

As he's lying in the wreckage, legs pinned by debris he screams in pain to end it quickly when a voice speaks to him in his mind and he somehows draws the strength to releas ehimself and , although injured, hobble his way to the source of the voice.

He find teh green metal and at first contact he's shown a flashback of its origin and how it ended up here. As he keeps in his apartment, a building run by junkies and drug barons, he hears a violent commotion as one of the drug barons plans to off a guy and his wife and son for not having his money. Alan, peeking through the crack of his door, wit the strange metal in tow, sees this and the glow makes the drug baron notice and he threatens to kill him if he doesn't pass the pretty thing over.

Unwilling to part with his prize Alan says no and the Drug Baron smiles and says, fine, have it your way and open fire...holding the metal as a shield of sorts, Alan generates a flame-like barrier that stops the bullets. The Drug Baron is like "WTF?" and moves closer, firing again but the metal blocks the shots and after getting too close the Drug Baron is singed by the flame and runs off.

Alan goes back to his place and realizes that saving those people gave him more joy than he's known and decided to become a hero...not before nogotiatring with the Startheart about making it easier to weild....he tries varuous shapes like a cane, a bracelet, a medallion, and others (paying homage maybe to other DC heroes and their weapons) before finallys settling on a ring.

Alan goes out to find things he can use for a costume and back at teh building the Drug Cartel has decied to antagonize the residents by cutting off the power to all the apartments unless they pay for protection. The family from before is alone and scared in their apartment knowing that they could be invaded at any time.

As the drug cartel trie sto break down the family's door, a fight seemigly breaks out outside along with a subtle green glow...when its all said and done...the boy approaches the door, despite the mother's objections and he sees Alan fullyd ecked out in his uniform and with teh ring glowing on his finger.

"Do I scare you?"

"No...I'm only afraid of the dark..."

"That's okay kid...cos from now on the dark will be afraid of me...you got a name?"

"Aaron...what's yours?"

"I'm...well...Green.....(looks and sees a flashlight rolling on the floor) Flash-....Lantern....Green Lantern..."

"Are you a hero?"

"I guess I'm going to try to be....now go back inside and take care of your mom and dad!"

"BY GREEN LANTERN"

*yes you can vomit from the corniness of it all*

That sounds like something MARVEL would do.

Back when the first announcements about Earth One were made, the approach was something like "what if DC's biggest franchises were invented today". Alan seemed like the logical choice, since he was the first Green Lantern. From there, I thought how to modernize his origin for today's readers. I didn't want to tie it into the GLC, since that wasn't part of the Green Lantern mythos when it was first created.

The rest pretty much snowballed from there.

I'd be fine with either, as long as the creative team is worthwhile.
