I don't understand how in this day and age, ANYBODY could be a flat Earth believer. It's beyond foolish. Like religious nuts not believing dinosaurs existed or 9/11 was an inside job. Some things don't require a lot of common sense to dismiss.

Heck, it is even dumber than those other examples, because it is so easy to disprove a flat Earth from actual, personal experience. At least in those other cases people are either denying an interpretation derived from ancient evidence, or propounding a theory in the absence of decent evidence for it (though they think there is), but Flat Earthers are denying something they could prove with the direct evidence of their own senses. Its almost like posting to a messageboard your belief that the Internet doesn't exist.

^True. They often focus on NASA as a conspiracy, but there's all kinds of natural phenomena that wouldn't work if the earth was flat. Heck, even long-range snipers include the earth's curvature in their calculations. And you could take plane rides constantly going west (which you could verify visibly) and return to your location. But I think the more in-depth ones have "explanations" for all that.

I often think that the more "in-depth" ones are actually very, very SMART people, who are simply enjoying tweaking everybody else, and like the intellectual exercise involved in constructing arguments for something patently false that MOST people won't have the skills to dismantle logically.

I figure they find it rewarding to come out ahead in a debate even when supporting a view that is obviously wrong.

I just have a hard time buying that anybody smart enough to construct some of the more deviously convoluted explanations for a Flat Earth could possibly be dumb enough to really buy into it.

Yeah, I wonder that too. And I know people who make very complex arguments for things they don't really care about just because they love to do it. Then again, there were some really intellectual guys high up in the Nazi party who should have known better but still became adamant eugenics supporters. So, who knows?

People who think they're too smart to fool are the biggest fools. Another example is the anti-vaxxers.

This particular "Flat Earther" sounds like he "converted" mainly to get donations for his project. He sounds especially moronic when he goes on about how he "doesn't believe in science", then apparently completely redefines what science is, since he lists a bunch of scientific knowledge he claims to have but says it ISN'T science, but "just formulas" (I wonder how he thinks people arrived at those formulas?). And he fails to notice that his attempts to experimentally prove that the Earth is flat would, by any reasonable definition, also count as "science" (albeit laughably misguided and ill-considered science).

Mister, you take your "logic" and you get out. This here is Stupid Person Territory, and they don't take kindly to Big City Brainiacs like you cleaning up their problems.

Besides the absurdity of that complaint, I'm sure the person who wrote it stuffs himself and his children full of carbohydrates and thinks that's "healthy."

The really bizarre part is that it SEEMS like snack in question should be OK, as it is dried fruit, which is included in literally the FIRST item on their "acceptable" list.

I hate it when news anchors pronounce Chile as chee-lay.

Well, it is Australia. They probably have a bunch of words that they spell differently than we do, just like the UK does.

And these are just children! Presumably American children, playing high school sports! Good riddance, though I'm sure these two weren't making a lot of money off of this job.
