And the villain shall be...Effigy!

Damn, Banks' art has been missed.

I would imagine this issue would be the best out of ALL the Retro specials. Why? Because it's featuring a character actually DONE by the writer and artist who created him and are remembered for doing him. Most of the other books have maybe a half of the team, creators who never did or weren't remembered for working together, and in some cases never even worked on that character.

Also, a lot of writers and artists eventually get past their prime. Artists styles devolve in the decades after their prime, and many comic writers lose touch with their ability to tell great stories. Marz and Banks aren't far enough removed from that; hell, the 90s wasn't really all that long ago.

For the same reason I had hoped the 90s Flash issue would have had Waid and Augustyn writing, and LaRoque. Or at least someone else they actually worked with during their first run (God I miss Werringo!). Too bad.

Other than the Kyle oneshot, the only other one I'm looking forward to is the Batman/Reaper story. The 80s GL one with Staton on art SHOULD have been written by Steve Englehart and inked by Bruce Patterson.

Picked this up yesterday and enjoyed the ever-loving fuck out of it. The writing wasn't that superb and nothing outstanding, but it was just a great read and pretty awesome seeing Banks doing what he does best.

It was okay, but I'd have liked it more if they told us why the Controllers simply let Effigy go. Why not fill in a plot hole in something like this?

Oh, well. It was a nice throwback to the Kyle era.

I'm not even a Kyle fan, and I found it more enjoyable than any of the other retro books I read. GREAT art, and a suitable story that made sense for the character and time. Hell, this issue could be slotted in as a "missing" story and would fit right in.

Kyle fans should run out and get this.

I really enjoyed the stories. Nice to see Kyle back in the old costume. Painting Bats knocking out Guy for Guy's birthday was hilarious.

Picked this up and loved it.
There are now two GL stories that I actually enjoy, and both are Kyle stories.
Clearly I need to stop reading the new stuff, and start picking up 90s back issues.

Yes you do.

(the starting the picking up of the 90s stuff, not the stopping reading of the new stuff... misery loves/needs company)

True. Plus with the whole "new relaunch" everyone will be just as confused as I usually am, so there's that!

...

What? That's the best optimism I could come up with on such short notice.

I liked this a lot, even though I'm more a Hal fan. Banks is great.
And the two stories fit well (showing how close the style was).
This probably was my favorite too.

My stupid LCS didn't pull this for me. They are trying to get it (and the Justice League one that they ALSO didn't pull) from another store.

I had the same problem. I had to wait for re-orders. The clerk who knows me told me they weren't expecting that much interest in them and by the time the first batch sold out, all the orders had been made for the last batch. Got what I wanted eventually (all the GL and JLAs + the others in the 70s).

Oh, MAN! How I loved this book! It was such a nostalgic trip for me to read it. Marz, Banks, Kyle and Effigy (my favr Kyle villain next to Grayven and Fatality).

Damn, those days were good. Sure, Hal was nowhere to be found, but DC was much more cohesive and made much more sense to me than it did now up until the reboot (though, as neater as things may be now, the new 52 are still a bit murky in some areas)

... Or maybe I'm just biased cuz I started reading comics in the 90's. Either way, this book has become one of my all-time favorites!

Well the Green Lantern ones are looking like my favorite ones out of these.
Yes, i'd love Kyle to become a blue lantern. It makes sense.
