I concur. However, it's not an original film.

I go back and forth between Goodfellas and The Departed being my favorite Scorsese film. Usually it's Goodfellas. The Departed might be the best remake of anything in the history of ever.

I fell in love with Hugo when I saw it. I recently bought it and my family doesn't get my love for it. It's just a beautiful movie and so well done. Also, I don't think Gangs Of New York gets the appreciation it deserves.

My Dad and I are in the thick of Season 7 of The Shield right now. Such a great show. Chiklis is amazing in it. How he never got another show like it, or how Shawn Ryan didn't get to cherry-pick projects after it wrapped is beyond me...

God I love the end to that series. Anybody that tells you shows don't know how to have a great ending need to be shown The Shield and Breaking Bad.

You're almost to the end, make sure to tell us what you think!

I'll keep myself unspoiled. I will get around to doing SoA at some point.

I was excited to read that The Iron Giant is being re-released in theaters this Fall.

Then I was bummed to read it was in one-off "Fathom Events", not an actual theatrical run. I'll still try to go, though, if it works in our schedule.

It probably would be nice if those things ran a week or something, but Fathom Events are still a nice way to see movies before my time or live events. I've gone to several.

I just finished the series last night with my Dad and... holy shit. Seriously, the 2-part finale blew me away. Shane's suicide and murder of his wife and son I did not see coming and it seriously fucked me up, especially when I found out that Shawn Ryan was "inspired" by the Chris Benoit tragedy. But seeing Shane blow his brains out... man, he was just left without any moves and hung out by Vic to dry. Same with Ronnie, the poor bastard; he'll be doing life in Antwon Mitchell-ville, as Vic so eloquently put it. Seeing Gardocki getting hauled off really drove home how self-serving Vic is, "You're goddamn sorry?!" Even if it was to save his wife and kids, I'm not sure Ronnie deserved that.

And then there's Vic... locked to a cubicle for the next 3 years and forced to play on the inside looking out. The photo of him and Lem with Ronnie and Shane cropped out gave me a chuckle, but the final moments had me wondering what the hell Vic was going off to do... be a cop? If ICE finds out, he'll be fired and tried for his crimes. Is he going to go behind ICE's back, start working with criminals again? I don't think so, it doesn't seem like him. Maybe he was going to blow his brains out, too; I don't know, but it was a different ending then I was expecting, but not at all bad. Hell, it was good, I'd say: Vic's future left ambiguous what with every friend and family member he had being gone. What's left for Vic Mackey when he can't be the dirty cop who claims he's protecting people when there's nobody left to protect?

5/5 Would watch again.

Oh, and OF COURSE they kill off the comic store owner-turned-mayoral candidate. Anyway, I'm gonna try and start the ol' man on Justified next; he's a fan of Walton Goggins, plus it's just a great show.

Disney Developing SWORD IN THE STONE Remake with GAME OF THRONES Writer

It’s been five days since we heard about a new Disney live-action remake, which means it’s time to hear about a new Disney live-action remake. Today’s selection is The Sword in the Stone, Disney’s 1963 animated fantasy about a young King Arthur and his mentor Merlin. Per THR, Disney has tapped Game of Thrones writer Bryan Cogman to pen the script for the live-action update, with Brigham Taylor producing. Cogman wrote Game of Thrones Season 5’s controversial episode “Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken” and has been involved with the show since its first season, usually penning one or two episodes a season. But Sword in the Stone won’t be his first brush with feature films, as he’s also working on 20th Century Fox’s Magic: The Gathering movie.

That's my favorite (non-Pixar) Disney animated movie.

It's always a bad sign when reviews are embargoed until after a movie is released. Such is the case with The Fantastic Four.

Heh. I don't know that many people here or elsewhere would say that I'm real strict in my movie tastes. The number of movies I watch and own implies broad cinematic taste.

At any rate, I've liked the Chipmunks since I was a young boy and I still find amusing the idea of little, high-pitched singing chipmunks living in a human world. Almost any song is funny to me when chipmunked. I own the first movie and I think I watched 2 and 3 in theater (at least #3).

I similarly enjoy the Smurfs and the Muppets (though the latter are higher quality). These movies aren't classic cinema by any stretch of the imagination, but I find them "cute" when I'm in the mood for cute instead of monsters eviscerating horny teens or oscar-winning dramas. I'm eclectic.

I saw an interview with the director of The Fantastic Four, and he was talking a good game in terms of his presentation and enthusiasm, but he said some stuff that perplexed me a bit. He just didn't seem to get that The Fantastic Four is really sort of a dumb-assed concept that became a big deal solely because of the quality of Stan Lee's writing and characterizations. This and Spider-man were the titles that Lee truly blossomed on.

I mean, look at these characters' powers. Stretching? Invisibility? Super strength? Bursting into flames? That's about as pedestrian as you can get. And the early issues of the FF were seriously corny. The people who made this movie thought that the concept itself was great, and it isn't.

And if you're wondering how Johnny Storm can be black, well, see, his father is a black scientist who adopted a white girl named Susan.

Shit, why would you even bother doing something like that? Just tell a good story!

What I can't figure out is why they wouldn't just make Sue black as well. I mean why the added convolution of siblings of different races? Is that somehow an important plot point? If not, why add the complication, however slight, of explaining it?

It isn't a big deal, but it is a bit of a head scratcher, IMHO.
