^Season One is a little more like classic Hitman games than Absolution in that it's a series of jobs, but with an overarching story. In a straight play, it's shorter than Absolution, but it has more to do (e.g., every target has multiple ways of execution and many of them are fun enough to be worth the replay). It's not literally sandbox, but it's the most open world the series has ever been. They dropped intuition (which was a new feature in Absolution), but you don't need it to get Silent Assassin.

I think Hitman has become my favorite video game franchise. My first was Mega Man (and there's still a lot of nostalgia for that cute lil Asto Boy knock-off), but I honestly couldn't beat all those and I never got into the X series. For a long time, I would've said Metal Gear Solid was my favorite, but #4 was like a continuous FMV that you were occasionally allowed to play and truthfully I've now replayed Agent 47's adventures much more than Snake's. Mind you, PS1's MGS itself is a better quality game than any single Hitman title, but the following games didn't maintain the same level.

So Mike Matei reviewed Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon, reminding me that the game does exist and that I need to get around to playing it one day.

NothingButSkillz plays Spider-Man, part one

Goddamn, the game is gorgeous (granted, he's playing on a Pro, but there isn't a significant difference between baseline PS4 and Pro). The game really seems to be Spider-Man's version of the Batman: Arkham games, if you will: a major game about the character with a serious benchmark for quality.

I really will need to pick this up sometime soon.

^Mike Matei beating TMNT (NES) without scrolls or Don. That final battle had me laughing pretty hard.

So in The Division, the Dark Zone requirement for this week's Weekly Challenge is to extract 30 items via chopper. I get the first 9 out relatively easy (doing contamination events), then a four-man gank squad butchers me and steals my 3 public drops. I respawn and grab a few replacements and keep an eye on the map, and then get another load to safety.

Then things get difficult.

My third attempt has me loaded up well enough, and I run out of the checkpoint towards a helo pad. Uh-oh, another player runs across the street up ahead, so I know I might be in trouble and about-face. Double uh-oh, a second players runs out the same checkpoint I did, and either doesn't see me or doesn't care because he turns down a side path for his own agenda. I decide not to chance it and sneak to safety.

Nearly 24 hours later (a short while ago), I load into the game again and realize I'm still trapped in the checkpoint. I know I have very little choice now, because I need to finish the req and move on, so I check the map over and over and book it to the helo pad. More checking and then I'm able to get everything out, and now only have 5 items left I need to liberate from the DZ.

I teleport down south a ways and knock out a checkpoint, running into another player once I clear a landmark. I ignore him since he doesn't go rogue on me right away (not like I have any loot to steal at the moment), and move to another landmark. Clear that, head a bit more south and engage more NPCs. Then I notice one of the mob enemies seems to have raced behind me. Well, I can't have some dick shooting me in the back, can I?

I turn around and it's a rogue player, probably the guy from earlier. Okay, 9 out of 10 times I just let myself get killed because none of my loadouts are PVP and I'm ass at it anyway.

But not this time.

I engage and even though I'm not geared for a fight against a real human, I'm not in the mood for his shit. He and I both give it hell even with NPCs fighting both themselves and us (a 4-way brawl that was actually a twin set of 2-party fights, lol). In the end, we're both downed, and even though I don't have a mic inserted, I'm making a few righteously-smug remarks on his lack of victory before I respawn and leave the DZ altogether. I even got a nice little bounty from killing him!

At some point I need to put together a PVP build, because the only thing I have close to it is only half-designed for it.

So last night my dad and I got back to his place after dinner (he wanted some chili because he had a cold), and when nobody worth watching was on YouTube, I caught sight of a very particular stream that was up: Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (E-Extreme).

I can't remember the last time I even thought of MGS2, let alone watching someone blast through its most difficult mode. The guy had been streaming for over 8 hours, probably playing several of the games in a row (I guess this because he started playing another one after we watched Pirates of Blood River). We watched the end of SOL, where Raiden and Snake face the swarms of soldiers, then the RAY fleet, and then the final fight and part of the ending cinemas (I have no idea why, but the streamer didn't skip any cutscenes, which meant we watched him for a full hour, and my dad got a good load of the absurd amount of storytelling Kojima made his name on.

But it was good seeing my first (well, Substance was, this was the base version we watched) MGS game again.

Just found this a short bit ago. PSs are getting bricked by malicious messages even if you don't send them. Set messages to Friends Only, etc ect.

Holy shit, that's an amazing effort on his part. That second-to-last boss is a real nail biter!

I felt bad for James not beating the Sega version on J&M. You could tell i bothered him, but they ran out of time.

I don't follow them on Twitter or really any other channel other than the main Cinemassacre channel on YouTube that James uses, so I don't know just how far off the mark I probably am with this next bit, but every time I see them fail to complete a game, I tell myself that if Mike doesn't livestream beat it during one of his sessions, then James will return to it later down the road, either on his own or as a second attempt on JMM.

Dunkey Halloween Special

Reminds me a lot of P.T., that Silent Hill demo that got super-popular and then pulled offline when Konami decided to perma-fuck Kojima.

AVGN: Resident Evil: Survivor (PS1)

Oh god, this was incredible. Maybe the amount of shit jokes was a little much, but James put a lot into making this entry. And hot damn, I love his Shaun of the Dead "pint" joke.

Mike Matei beats Bucky O'Hare (NES) on Hard with one-hit deaths

I remember Bucky from the TMNT cartoon and toy line. Forgot he had a game of his own.

Bucky had a crossover with the Turtles? Aren't you thinking of Usagi Yojimbo?

I could have sworn he appeared in one of the old TMNT episodes, same as Usagi, but maybe I am mixing things up. Maybe it's because the aesthetic, especially for the toys, was somewhat similar to me as a kid.
