Still doesn't really answer the question on his future though. Is there a name change imminent? They haven't announced him in a solo book so maybe the only place to follow him will be in JL

I don't think they are canceling the title, but it appears that it will no longer feature Hal. I think Hal is going to need a new code name soon however.

I haven't been following toooo closely because I don't wanna spoil things, but I got the impression they were rebooting everything with a "Convergence" do-over. Personally I hope they just keep these going and going and going instead of back to #1...

They're not. No reboot.

Anyways someone want to fill me in on what's going on with Hal? He's leaving the corps?

Even this preview still makes me think Hal is going to play this role as a "traitor" for the Guardians for the good of the Corps. Looks like Kilowog will be in on it. Maybe Hal will supposedly not have a ring, but he still will and use it only on Earth since that sector is off limits to GLs now.

I am really curious to see what is going to happen to this title moving forward. I can't see Hal Jordan headlining this title if he doesn't use a ring, isn't a member of the Corps, and isn't Green Lantern.

Which begs the question of who will headline the title?

It's hard to say. In 39 he had a long conversation with Carol and she basically told him he needs to take charge and make decisions in his life. He didn't say he was going to quit per se, but the last panel showed him grabbing his flight jacket from a locker in Oa.

I doubt he's completely quitting since he's returning to the Justice League with a ring. More likely he's done leading.

Hal donning the Krona gauntlet is a cool idea, I liked the design of it since it first debuted but was never seen again. Hal needs a Super Saiyan look, ala Thor's armor and belt or WW's armor. I have always hoped that it would be the Parallax armor, being the ultimate manifestation of his powers, but the gauntlet is a good look when a power ring alone just isn't enough.

This is exactly what I think will happen too.

I tweeted Venditti awhile back ago asking and he said Hal wasn't leaving the title.
And Hal is still gonna be a Green Lantern since he's returning to the Justice League for John's Darkseid War and Bryan Hitch's new JLA book.

There's a difference between not leaving and not headlining. As for "Darkseid War", Hal Jordan will probably only be there for that arc. As for the upcoming JLA title, we have no idea what that book is about (as far as I know). It may take place in the past, for instance.

I don't know what will happen to Hal Jordan, but I think the idea that he will unshakably be the star of Green Lantern for all eternity is silly, especially since there are things pointing to that not happening, and also since he has gotten the title take away from him before. WB (again, not DC's decision) could have a completely different place they want to take the franchise moving forward. That is totally feasible.

Something I've noticed in many Hal Jordan fans is they seem to often think in baseless absolutes.

So far from what I am hearing and seeing my theroy of Goeff knowing how bad they were going to screw up Green Lantern, seems more and more plausable.

I almost wish DC/WB would sell the franchise to some other company. People complain about the GL movie, the book is so much worse.

I can see that you don't like Hal Jordan and the idea of him not being around anymore would make you very happy, but I wouldn't get too excited.
I'm not sure what direction the GL books will go after Convergence but I'm positive Hal will still headline the Green Lantern book. However I don't think it will feature the corps like the book has been since Venditti started his run. I follow Robert on twitter and he said some solo Hal adventures are coming soon so that's what I think we're gonna see come June. Hal Jordan has been the star of the GL book for like 10 years now and I don't see that changing now.

And as for the Justice League book Johns said Green Lantern he would be coming back and I think he's gonna be there to stay, even after the Darkseid War. I could be wrong but I guess we just have to wait and see. As for the JLA book, yeah we don't really know what it's about but I don't think what time it takes place in is really relevant. Bryan Hitch was asked some questions on twitter about the book and this is what he had to say.

The point I'm trying to make here buddy, is that Hal Jordan isn't going anywhere. So get used to the idea of him still being around.

Hal playing the willing patsy for the good of the Corps? I kind of like the idea. It beats him quitting for real, and for once we'd have Hal and the Guardians working together for the same goal, the twist being that it's hush-hush behind the scenes.

I think so. Maybe he takes the blame for everything the corps has done wrong recently, since pretty much the entire universe saw his face when the durlan impersonated him, and so with his departure the public will be more willing to accept the Green Lantern corps as the protectors of the universe. He pretty much already did the same thing in the Justice League. I think he'll take some time away from the corps and return to earth for the Darkseid War and maybe some other adventures. I think we're due for some good earth-bound GL stories, I honestly miss seeing Coast City.

I'll admit I've been pretty hard on Venditti, but I keep thinking about this and it may not be a bad way to go. Hal willingly be a scapegoat for the greater good is probably his best character development in twenty issues. As long as it is handled with taste I may be OK with this.

The Corps being willing to punish and cast out their best and brightest will help convey the idea that no one is above the law, even their own members or in this case, their leader. It makes sense. Maybe only Kilowog will know other than the Guardians and Hal, or maybe only a select few others.

Hal can go to Earth, do what he needs to there since it is not a GL sector anymore, and the ruse will continue until the Guardians need Hal to save the day down the road.
