The backpack is the "battery," so it's doesn't need to ever recharge, but as far as I know, the last time we saw it, it was just a bulkier, prototype ring with battery. I'm not sure how it became the "most lethal weapon in the universe," unless 'wog just meant that it's the equivalent of a ring and battery and therefore the most powerful kind of weapon.

I've been a Hal Jordan fan since the early 80s. This is the 4th time I will have lived through Hal quitting/getting sacked/replaced and all I can say is:

FUCK THIS.

DC need to show the character the respect he deserves and get back to fucking basics.

And as for speculation of John replacing Hal, if that happens it will be for one reason: racism. And I'll be dropping DC like a sack of shit.

If you can't write Hal Jordan as Green Lantern, in a Green Lantern comic and are forced to remove him from his role then you really shouldn't be writing the title. This doesn't feel like the other moves, trying to actually replace Hal in the book but it is a very oversued gimic that has never yielded great stories, Predator, or Hal being out of the Corps during Crisis. Hal dropping the ring is dumb, an unnecessary plot device. I like Hal in the Green Lantern uniform being 'the' Green Lantern. I didn't like him as a secret agent, I didn't like him as the Spectre. Hal doesn't have to be the 'leader' of the corps, but he can be, Hal can have the gauntlet to go Super Saiyan 2 for big foes, as long as he is still a Green Lantern. I hope this is quickly resolved plot. I blame Geoff, he opted for the Corps as space cop, and now the writer after him is jumping on the , 'populace doesn't trust or like the police that are supposed to be there to protect them' vibe. I prefer to think of the GLC as knights of the round table, specially trained brotherhood of special warriors traveling the universe bringing a special code of justice. For me Sir Lancelot>>>Eliot Ness.

John is one of the dullest characters in comics. He used to be ok, back in the 80s when he was knocking about with Katma. He was a fun, light character. But since the turgid Mosaic, he's been reduced to a self-loathing, introspective bore.

And Cyborg is NOT one of the 'big seven'. Cyborg is a Teen Titan. His place in the 'big seven' of Justice League actually belongs to Martian Manhunter. Thats not opinion, that's historical fact.

Geoff wasn't the first to call them space cops. I took the name back when I was on the DC board (before Geoff ever wrote a word of GL) because that's how I used to describe the character to others and I didn't invent it then. Anyway, the parallels aren't that far. The Camelot knights were like cops too--they enforced justice in their land (with the exception of a trip for the Holy Grail) and fought the guilty.

I just find it funny that if Kyle or Guy were to replace Hal we'd probably say it was shitty writing but if John takes over as the lead instantly it's racism.

Never mind the fact he's a character that has existed for decades or that he's been a lead character before or that at one point he was a Guardian. Nope, racism is the only possible explanation.

And yea, I find that hilarious.

I don't agree with all of your points in this thread, but I wholeheartedly agree with THIS one. I miss 80s John, the way Wein and Englehart wrote him; with some youth, optimism, and wide eyed excitement. He's just depressing now.

It is kinda getting outta hand. Let's talk real Diversity for a moment. Why can't Superman ever be Black in media? Why Can't Steel be in the Hustice League movie? Use John, but then make him the Leader of the JLA. I mean he is a Green Lantern,so he actaully is responsable for what happens to Earth. Everybody else is just a self appointed do gooder. Is a Black man not good enough to be in charge?

How much diversity dose the JLA really need? We have a woman from a island paradise,a Fishman, and a freakin space alien! What they don't count because they look white? For people who don't see skin color they sure do single out that fact. It's not where you come from it's how you look.

The point.

You can't have it both ways. No more straddling line. you wanna be proactive in the movmet,Then do it right. don't act like you are Martain Luther king because you have one black guy in your movie.

As a single issue, I thought this was great. The image of Hal hugging 'Wog got me misty eyed. I'm not sure I like the idea of a ringless Hal, however. Only time is going to tell if that is a good move.

Maybe I'm alone, but I would have liked someone like Salaak to be in on the ruse with 'Wog, so he could whisper, as Hal flies away,:

"Because he's the hero Oa deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So we'll hunt him. Because he can take it. Because he's not our hero. He's a silent guardian. A willful protector. An emerald Knight..

Well, I'd be okay with never hearing another quote or allusion to that line from DK. It was fine in its original context, but it's been run into the ground like "This is Sparta."

I'd also like to see Hannu kick someone into a pit and say, "This....is...OA!"

Kilowog start saying, "If ya smeeeellalalalala what the Wog is cookin'"

And the main forum page feature Big Baddy Dave swinging naked from a wrecking ball.

Why? Because...reasons.

Ugh just read this issue. Man what a disappointment. The art was terrible (Hal looks like Dick Grayson). I'm kind of interested in the whole "Hal is a rogue" storyline; self sacrifice and all that, steeping down as leader to take the blame of something, but the dialogue and art was horrible. The worse out of the 10+ titles I picked up yesterday. It really doesn't feel like it will stick...I hope they turn things around because I really want to start picking up GL titles again. But man I can't justify it if the art and story are poop. I just hope it gets better from here.

I think the art is sucking the mere possibility of me enjoying this title away. If there was one of the previous artists that Johns had at his disposal doing the art now, I think I'd be able to enjoy the story more for what it is. It's so bad I feel like it's intertwined with the story.

Think I'll pick this one up used, for a quarter, in about ten years. Thanks for the memories, guys.

The story was exciting at the beginning. Really thought Hal Jordan turned bad again.

This issue was boring. But it set up an interesting dilemma at the end. No ring, but still has GL power, so no Gaurdian rules.

It would be kinda lame if this is a roundabout way to go back to one-issue stories, but with a bulky powerglove instead of a ring.
