I thought it was good but I also think it was overhyped. Couldn't live up to it. After watching it I thought that it was good, but also "was that all the fuss was about?".

What was all the fuss about?!?!? About one of the greatest shows of ALL time, going out coasting on a river of awesomesauce! The fuss was also about the show never dropping the ball, never jumping the shark, and not blowing their own ending. Nobody else in TV seems capable of pulling all of that off.

The Shield showed everybody what a perfect ending should look like. The Shield finale owns Breaking Bad by far!

I agree wholeheartedly with the first sentence. The second sentence...not so much.

To make my point somewhat clearer:

Breaking Bad ended with Walter coming to terms with himself. He finally admits that he is a selfish jerk but actually gets everything he ever wanted from episode 1.
He finds a way to give all the 9 million dollar to his kids. He gets the chance to explain himself to his wife. He makes amends for killing Hank.
He frees Jesse, he finally admits that everything ever was about him. They nod each other. He avenges Hanks death!
And then he's getting of easy by dying.

See, ever since the end of season 4 I have been thinking (and telling my girlfriend repeatedly ) that Walt has to die. But ultimately that's not what he deserves. He deserves to fucking rot in hell! What he did was inconsolable, there never was a coming back from that.

From my (weird and nerdy) point of view the Breaking Bad finale was a happy end.

What did we get from The Shield?
Vic fucks everything up. His family. His friends. He fucks over his only remaining partner Ronny. Shane fucking kills his entire family and commits suicide!
In the end, Vics family has to go in witness protection (but they seem happy) and Vic has to face everything he ever did. Does he have to go to jail for it? No, but he has to live his personal nightmare for the rest of his life, without any family working at a boring deskjob.
Obviously The Shield isn't better than Breaking Bad in it's entirety. The Shield should have ended two seasons earlier and suffered badly from the fact that storylines got they payoff 3 or 4 seasons after they were set off and then seemingly dropped in between. The Shield was initially inteded to last only three seasons, and it shows. It wasn't like it was a bad show. However it is a prime example for tv shows that were afraid to pull the plug when they reached their high point.
Breaking Bad on the other hand only got better from season to season. And although it seemed impossible to top season 4, they made an even better season 5.
But in the end (at least for me) The Shield handled the finale better.

All of this is just a matter of opinion obviously.

Oh and I forgot that Walter also absolved Jesse from all that he ever committed by cooking meth with him by selecting the lab as his place to die

That's dumb.

He doesn't get what he wants. His family hates him, Hank is dead, Jesse and Saul's life are in utter ruins.

The ONLY thing he gets is self awareness and for a show about addicts that danced around the world of drugs and addiction that was a pretty god damned great ending.

If the show had ended on Ozymandias instead of on Felina everybody would have said "Oh THAT'S what he deserved...." Well come on. The last two episodes of the series are denoument. They're epilogue. And they were awesome.

I never saw The Sheild so I don't know which is "better" but I don't care.

Breaking Bad was awesome even if there is something out there that's slightly better.

Spoilers for The Shield below:

The Shield was fucking great. It's not as amazing as Breaking Bad, but it's on that level of greatness. I agree with SocializingMogo on a lot of what he said were the pros and cons of the Shield. I think though that the 7th season was the best one (the 4th one being the next best). The way The Shield ended was pretty much perfect. Even stuck in his hell job and having gotten away with everything, Vic didn't learn his lesson and couldn't stay out of trouble. Was it better than Breaking Bad? The show as a whole definitely was not, but the ending to me is a tossup.

I loved how it ended and you can see a lot of parallels in how Gilligan put together and ended the two shows. Vic Mackey and Walter White also have a lot in common in how destructive they are to their worlds with their actions. They both pay a heavy price for their actions.

That's not what I meant. Yeah sure, that was probably his personal nightmare, but I was thinking more of Walt getting shanked in prison shower or something. Similar to what he did to Mike's guys.

But that's not really important. I'm not saying Breaking Bad had a bad ending. It had a good ending that tied everything together. But I still got the feeling "that's it?".
It probaby has something to do with my girlfriend telling for for two weeks how great the final season is and how perfect te ending is etc.

The 4th season as the next best? The one with Glenn Close? I'd put that as one of my least favorite seasons. Now the fifth season with Forrest Whitaker, that was a great season. That was more what the entire show should have been.

I agree with the mentality that it was a good show and at times could be near Breaking Bad quality. The problem was it was very inconsistent. Really, the whole series could have just been the first, fifth, and seventh seasons and been better for it.

Seasons 2 (armenian mob heist) and 3 (fucking up all that money) were awesome too. Wasn't season 3 also the one were the armenian mob started burning their heist suspects? Great stuff!

I assume the movie isn't really meant for people who didn't finish the show (you know, all three of us). One of these days, I should consider picking up where I left off (which apparently was s2:e5). But probably not.

Too soon to say how it will be, narratively. I suspect it will be accessible in that it will be Jesse on the run from the law and tripping balls. There are many movies that begin like that... the only difference here is that there are 5 seasons of a show to show us why.

I'm also unconvinced that Walter actually died.

No, The X-Files (1998) and The X-Files: I Want to Believe (2008). The latter, which was another of their takes on Frankenstein, was particularly accessible.

Oh, right. The latter was super accessible (in fact, the whole conclusion of the TV show is brushed off with a single phone call in the beginning).

"Fight the Future" far less so, as that was the culmination of a lot of stuff going on in the show up until that point. That was a great time to be an X-Files fan.

I loved X-Files at the beginning. When the cast changed, I dropped off and never got back except for those two movies. At this point, if I were to try the reboot, I'd want to go back, which I should do anyway.
