Default Lanterns before Hal/Alan

So Hal/Alan were the first known GLs basically (And that old alien that's connected to the wood weakness origin whose name I've forgotten). My question is where were the Green Lanterns before them? Abin Sur and the rest included? Earth is in sector 2814 and never runs out of danger. You would think that Green Lanterns would have been visiting Earth for thousands of years protecting humans and would have been common knowledge to humans like regular police are. And that humans would have known about aliens for thousands of years as well. Is there some rule that prevents GLs from showing up on uncivilized planets? Has this ever been explained in any older stories?

Yes. Some older stories explained that GL wasn't supposed to reveal himself to species unfamiliar with aliens, but the rule didn't always apply.

There's a story where Abin Sur went to the Old West.

In Green Lantern Quarterly they had also done an earlier GL that was a dragon on earth in Medieval times, but that contradicted previous statements that Hal was the first on earth and it's been retconned since.

Edit: it looks like Yalun Gur (above) was on Earth 10. [?]

Yalan Gur was in Green Lantern during Gerard Jones run and was one of the better stories IMO.

Originally appeared in Legends of the DC Universe 20 and 21, I believe, and it's reprinted in the Green Lantern: Traitor trade paperback. Co-starring with Abin Sur is a deputy US marshal named Henry Lee Jordan, conveniently you-know-who's ancestor in the Old West. Good story. Continues to four other parts, same villain.

Yalun Gur was the name I couldn't remember, he was one of the reasons given for the wood weakness if I remember correctly. Wasn't Green Lantern Dragon Lord an elseworld's story? I hadn't head of the Abin Sur in the Wild West, it's interesting.

So are we pretty much going with that every Lantern before Hal, visited Earth in secret to not let the population be aware of aliens or something?
